Rushville’s Michael Tully reaches for this backhand during action Tuesday against No. 10 Delta. Tully teamed with Kyle Ham at No. 2 doubles for the Lions.

Delta, holding the No. 10 state ranking in the most recent polls, invaded Rushville on Tuesday for tennis action. The talented Eagles defeated the Lions 5-0 in the varsity match.

Delta has three wins over Top 10 teams and has one of its best teams in years.

“They are one of the best teams in the state,” RCHS head coach Andy Firth said.

At No. 1 singles, Spencer Abrams lost 6-0, 6-0 to Zach Ervin.

Delta’s Josh Chambers knocked off Ean Billman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3 singles, Adam Harcourt fell 6-0, 6-0 to Joseph Taylor.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Nick Sherwood and Chase Sullivan were defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Dan Klingenberg and Jeff Price.

At No. 2 doubles, the duo of Kyle Ham and Michael Tully lost 6-0, 6-1 to Zac Bow and Alex Wagner.

In reserve action, Kyle Morgan lost at No. 1 singles to Caleb Austin. At No. 2 singles, Will Wilson lost to Jordan Green. At No. 3 singles, Trae Martindale lost to Jarred Brooke. Martindale also played No. 5 singles and lost to John Rauchenstein. At No. 4 singles, Wilson lost to Andres Garcia.

In reserve doubles, Aaron Newbold and Michael Daubenspeck lost to bobby Helfer and Rafael Garcia. Morgan and Daubenspeck lost at No. 2 doubles to Kory Mace and Neal Faulkner.

Rushville (2-4) returns to action today in a make-up match at Pendleton Heights. The Lions then host Oldenburg Academy on Thursday and the Rushville Invitational on Saturday.
