Hello bowling fans! This is Jim Ephlin, at the Rushville Bowl, where all the action is. The game of bowling has changed to quite a display of strike throwing and that`s happening here as we have had two perfect games the first two weeks of competition.
The first week of Classic League, Chad Soliday from New Castle rolled games of 205 - 174 - 300 for a 679 series. As is often the case the last game his swing and line started matching up pretty good and he was off with the first nine in a row. In the 10th frame, he made three quality shots with the last one creeping high but taking care of business and perfection was his.
Craig's night falls into the category of you never know what you are going to bowl. On Monday the 3rd, he came in for league play and proceeded to shoot 158 his first game. In the second game, it got better as he fired a 231 game. Game # 3 saw Craig become a striking machine as he was looking smooth. The last ball came in and looked like it would need to be a mixer of some sort as a 7 pin appeared as it might not go down. The final pin rolled that way with enough power and the 7 toppled and the place went wild.
I want to point out to all bowlers and at the same time thank the following individuals for serving as league presidents. In the Classic League it will be Lee Burton, in Pacesetter it is Paul Sutton and in Industrial Terry Brumfield is at the helm. The Tuesday Ladies Recreation League will be served by Amanda Rouse.
State tournaments will be held in locations not all that far away from Rushville this year which should increase our participation numbers. The first one being the Tenth annual Indiana State Mixed Championships in New Castle at Rose City Bowl. Tournament dates are November 3 through November 11. There will be team competition consisting of 2 men and 2 women and doubles consisting of 1 man and 1 lady per team. Reservations are the way to go but this tournament does accept walk in entries if there is space available.
Men's state championship will be contested in Lafayette around the first of March. Team, doubles, singles and all-events categories are available. The deadline for entry is around December and I`m sure Mike LaFuse will be coordinating this event.
For the ladies you will be traveling to Kokomo to bowl in your state tournament. The tourney runs March 23 through May 12. This tournament has categories for 4 person teams or 5 person teams based on your league. We will give more information on all these tournaments in future bowling columns.
Our Friday Night Mixed league starts this Friday with room for both individuals and a whole team to join. This is a shorter league as it runs 10 weeks less than our traditional leagues. This will now put our popular Friday Night Bowl for a Dollar program on the lanes from 9 p.m. to midnight.
I want everyone to get back in the habit of going to www.RushvilleBowl.com as one of your stops when you get on the computer. It has been fairly idle through the days of summer but starting October 17 it should be more geared for the new year.
