The Rushville Merchants 18-and-under squad opened the season with nine runs in the first inning en route to a 9-0 shut out of Connersville.

Katie Berkemeier led the offensive charge with a two-run double. Brittanni Hood had a two-run single. Hillary Orme added a two-run single as well. Brittany Gregory added an RBI single. Felicia McCorkhill and Amanda Weaver both had RBIs and Michelle Hutchinson chipped in with a single.

McCorkhill pitched the five-inning game allowing two hits and one walk while striking out eight.

The Rushville defense made no errors on the night.

The Merchants 14U team defeated D.C. Lightning 16-4 as Hutchinson tossed a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Ciara Harr had two hits and two RBIs. Orme added two hits and two RBIs. Brittany Newhouse added a bases-loaded double for three RBIs. Chelsea Kuhn, Hutchinson and Hali Newhouse all had one single. Kayla Niehoff scored three runs and Katie Hurst scored two runs.

The 14U team then knocked off Union County (Redpath) 8-1.

Hutchinson allowed just one hit in six innings with five walks and seven strikeouts.

Hutchinson, Niehoff and Newhouse led the team offensively.

The Merchants 12U knocked off Union County by the final of 15-1.

Bekah Miller had a home run and a triple to lead the Merchants.

Emily Neeb added a triple. Taylor Hoeing had a double and single. Halee Disbro chipped in with a double. Samantha Sasher finished with a pair of singles. Lexie Kirkham, Alyson Buckley and Anne Riggs all had one single.

Buckley pitched for the Merchants allowing three hits and no walks with seven strikeouts.
