Multiple emergency departments responded to the 2000 block of Rushville Road shortly after 4 p.m. Monday. They were dispatched following a report of a single-vehicle that had rolled.

Rush County Deputy Daniel Meyer was one of the first to arrive on the scene and found the driver 34-year-old Daniel A. Spalding of Shelbyville and a passenger in the vehicle Jason Hall, no age given of Greenfield, uninjured and standing outside the vehicle.

According to the accident report, Spalding momentarily took his eyes off the roadway to glance at his cell phone when the vehicle drifted to west side of the rural road. In an attempt to return to the center of the road, the soft mud shoulder caused the trash truck, a 2004 Freightliner, to slide down a small incline and roll on to the passenger’s side.

After checked by medical personnel, Spalding and Hall did not require additional medical treatment and were released at the scene.

Assisting at the accident were units from the RFD Ambulance, Rushville Township Volunteer Fire Department and Davis Towing.
