Shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday a report of an accident involving two vehicles just north of the Rush County line on SR 3 was received at the Rush County Sheriff’s Department.

Road work in the area by the Indiana Department of Transportation had traffic slowed when a Greensburg motorist, identified as Charles S. Riddle Jr., 63, was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.

According to Henry County Sheriff’s deputy Matt Pierce, a northbound INDOT truck had stopped and was waiting for southbound traffic to pass before turning when a line of vehicles began to form behind the state vehicle shortly after crossing CR 1200N.

“A 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by Barbara K. Oldham, 38, of New Castle, had stopped behind other vehicles when her car was struck by Riddle’s 1993 Cadillac,” Pierce said.

The Chevrolet sustained what appeared to be only minor damage while Riddle’s Cadillac was rendered inoperable by the force of the crash.

“I guess we are all right, although things could be a little better,” Riddle said a short time after the accident as he and a passenger waited for a tow truck.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the accident, although the fender-bender did cause additional slowing of northbound traffic in the area for nearly 20 minutes.
