A two vehicle accident shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday in the 300 block of West Second Street injured two motorists and a passenger in one of the vehicles.

According to investigating officer Larry Strobl of the Rushville Police Department, the driver of a 2015 Dodge Caravan, later found to be driven by Alicia Callahan, 30, of Connersville, was traveling westbound on Second Street when she crossed into the path of an eastbound 1998 Dodge Durango driven by Rushville resident John Shelby Jr., 26.

The Connersville woman said she thought that traffic in each direction was required to stop as she crossed the centerline and continued west on Second Street into the path of Shelby’s Durango.

“The caravan took a direct hit on the passenger side by the east bound vehicle,” officer Strobl said.

The force of the impact extensively damaged both vehicles rendering them inoperable. After being checked at the scene by medical personnel from the Rushville Fire Department Ambulance, the Connersville woman and a front seat passenger in her vehicle were transported to Rush Memorial Hospital for what were described as non-life threatening injuries. Shelby was transported to RMH by a family member for minor injuries.

Assisting at the scene were units from the RPD, Rush County Sheriff’s Department, RFD and Davis Towing.
