Shortly after 4 a.m. Friday, a report of trespassing in the 1200 block of North Fort Wayne Road was received at the Rushville Police Department.
A short time later, deputies from the Rush County Sheriff’s Department joined officers from the RPD and attempted to locate an individual, later identified as Ezra Stearns, 18, who reportedly was attempting to unlawfully enter a residence located at 1205 North Fort Wayne Road.
According to law enforcement personnel, once on the scene, Stearns was located on the roof of the residence and he jumped off the roof and ran into a nearby cornfield to escape apprehension.
Troopers from the Indiana State Police and an ISP helicopter assisted other officers and K9 units in a ground search for the suspect to no avail Friday before the search was called off shortly before noon.
Law enforcement personnel believe Stearns vacated the area prior to a perimeter being set up by officers and the ground and air search commencing.
“The suspect does not have driver’s license so we have no BMV photo to work off of, the only photo we have is the one we released Friday,” Assistant Chief of Police Todd Click of the RPD said Monday.
Stearns is known to frequent Rush County and Henry County in the Spiceland area and as of press time Monday had not been apprehended. The RPD is asking anyone with information to his whereabouts to contact the local authorities. Prior to additional charges pending from Friday of resisting law enforcement and battery, Stearns is additionally wanted on a previous Level 6 Felony warrant for battery.
