The Rush Memorial Hospital was awarded a $5,000 from the Flagstar Crafts Community grant. Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation board members, Rush Memorial Hospital staff, and Flagstar representatives gathered at the Sheehan Cancer Center for a tour and check presentation.
The grant received from Flagstar Bank will go to support newly diagnosed cancer patients from the Sheehan Cancer Center at Rush Memorial Hospital through the Cancer Patient Support Bag program. With a goal to ease the burden on local patients and families, a bag is provided with selected items from the oncology staff that include a blanket, water jug, specific skin care products, and support for meals or transportation needs. This program has seen significant growth to match the significant increase in newly diagnosed patients at the Cancer Center.
“Providing high quality patient care is a priority for our staff at the Sheehan Cancer Center. Receiving a cancer diagnosis is life changing for a patient and their loved one. These bags provide a small comfort during this time,” Brad Smith, Rush Memorial Hospital President and CEO, said.
Following the acquisition of 52 Wells Fargo branches in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin, Flagstar Bank is announced the “Flagstar Crafts Community” initiative, a $260,000 investment in Flagstar’s new communities.
Each of Flagstar’s 52 branches will invest $5,000 in a local nonprofit. Local regional and branch managers helped identify nonprofits per branch as nominees for the grant based on their alignment with Flagstar’s community reinvestment objectives and the giving pillars of the Flagstar Foundation. Community members voted in person at the branch, located at 1541 N. Main St. and through an online voting system.
Alle Lilly, Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation Director, said, “Community partners, like Flagstar Bank, make our work possible at Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation. A special thanks to the community who voted for the Cancer Patient Support Bag program. This grant will make a positive impact on our cancer patients at Sheehan Cancer Center.”
