The Rush County School Board met this past Tuesday and took in a performance by the RCHS Madrigals.
RCHS Choir Instructor David Doyle led the Madrigals as they performed two songs for school board members.
RCS Superintendent Matt Vance applauded the Madrigals’ performance and thanked Doyle for his work with the group.
The school board conducted regular business after the performance.
RCS Director of Curriculum and Instruction Melissa Leap presented RCS February Average Daily Membership (ADM) Report to school board members.
The report showed the corporation is down seven students from this time last year. However, there were eight graduates from September to February.
According to Superintendent Vance, state lawmakers are considering legislation which would allow a school to claim midterm graduates on its ADM Report.
The school board then approved consent items which included out of state and overnight field trips.
The school board voted to approve changes to its drug testing program for bus drivers. The change requires 50 percent of drivers to be randomly drug tested each time a test is administered instead of 25 percent of drivers as in the past.
Drug tests will be conducted for bus drivers two to three times per year.
Vice President of the RCS School Board Tammy Jackman informed the council the RCHS and BRMS Parliamentary Procedure teams both finished fourth at the state competition this past Saturday.
Secretary of the RCS School Board Jeff Amos congratulated the RCHS/BRMS FFA teams and the RCHS wrestling team. The wrestling team had three wrestlers advance to semistate, which will be held this Saturday at New Castle.
Superintendent Vance informed the school board of upcoming important dates.

• March 6 and 7 – Boys’ Basketball Sectional
• March 23-27 – Spring Break (Central Office only closed 3/27/19)
• April 4 – Kindergarten Round-Up at RESW (9 a.m. to noon)
• April 7 – Regular School Board Meeting 7 p.m.
The next RCS School Board meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10 in the RCS Administration Building.
