The nearly two month respite from homework is nearing an end for Rush County students with the arrival of the 2019 – 2020 school year.

Rush County School students enrolled in Kindergarten will begin their first year of formal education Tuesday at their respective school: Arlington, Milroy, RES East and West. Students in grades one through 12 will report Wednesday.

In preparation of the upcoming sport seasons, many fall sport athletes enrolled at Benjamin Rush Middle School and Rushville Consolidated High School began practicing for their upcoming seasons a few weeks ago. The recently completed band camp had high school musicians preparing for half-time shows during the Lion football season.

With the arrival of the school year, law enforcement personnel ask motorist to use extra caution and allow additional time during early morning and afternoon hours on city streets and county roads when around school zones and the numerous bus stops located in Rushville.

City street department employees have been busy in recent weeks, repainting city crosswalks in close proximity to Rushville schools. A number of school staff and administrators will be on hand to greet students as they arrive next week and they will be on hand to make sure the younger students get on the correct bus for their return trip home.
