Members of the Rushville Parks & Recreation Board met for the first time of 2020 in the City Center Council Chambers. Acting on a motion by board member Ron Lienemann, officers will remain the same as 2019: Mike Daubenspeck – president, Lou Starkey – vice-president and Dave Malson – secretary.
After approving meeting minutes from previous meetings, parks director Dan Burklow introduced board members to new assistant parks director Austin Bolyard.
In an unrelated matter, Burklow said pool supplies have been ordered for Waggener Community Pool for the summer season and that work and communication with H.W.C. has be on specifics regarding Splash Pad at Gateway Park located in the 300 block of South Main Street.
In an unrelated matter, the board approved a two-year field lease for Rush County Youth Baseball fields in Laughlin Park for 2020. The annual youth baseball and softball organizational meeting and election of officers was held the new officers announced are: Doug Sherwood – president, Pete McCorkle – vice-president, Sam Kinder – treasure, Keith Pavey – commissioner of baseball and Ashley McCorkle commissioner of softball.
In a final matter, plans were announced for the rapidly approaching Valentines Gala. The event will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Feb. 15. Tickets for the event are currently on sale for $40 for a single and $70 for couples. It is hoped that $18,000 can be raised with monies generated from the event used to purchase fitness equipment to be placed on the site of the former Park Restaurant in South Veterans Memorial Park.
