Boys and Girls Club to offer youth programs

The Boys and Girls Club of Rush County is gearing up for the new school year and will offer two sports leagues to local youth.

The club, located at 1590 N. Sexton Street, is bringing back its Early Bird breakfast program and Youth Basketball League and will host a Developmental Soccer League for the first time.

“The schools offer sports programs for 5th through 12th grade. We would like to give the younger youth an opportunity that they may not find elsewhere,” Unit Director at the Boys and Girls Club of Rush County Quinn Leisure said. “The Early Bird is a program that was offered in the past, but hasn’t been offered since 2016. For the first time we are partnering with Rush County Schools and offering a morning pick up for both Arlington and Milroy Elementary Schools.”

The Early Bird program will begin at 6 a.m. starting on Aug. 7 at a cost of $4. Program sign-up is available at the Boys and Girls Club front desk.

The club will host its Youth Basketball League from Sept. 3 to Nov. 7 for club members in grades one and two and grades three and four. The league will help children learn the basics of basketball and how to work as a team.

Registration costs $30. Participants are required to register by Aug. 23.

The club will also host a Developmental Soccer League for youth ages three through four. The soccer league will run from 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays from Sept. 4 through Oct. 2.

Registration costs $30. Participants are required to register by Aug. 23.

Those who have questions regarding these programs can contact Leisure by phone at 765-932-2765 or by email at qleisure@bgcrushco.org.

“Something that stands out most to me is, each and every one of our staff is club alumni, most of which are alumni of this club,” Leisure said. “We all have had the chance to experience what a Boys and Girls Club has to offer and share a common passion in making sure each and every one of our members has the same positive experience we have. We offer an abundance of programs and activities. There are opportunities for everyone.”
