Avonelle Chance Leissring is known to a great many people as a foundation director; she still is, she just changed foundations! Coming from a background of education and financial planning, Avy feels she has combined the two and found a career that allows her to meet with good people that want to change lives and have an impact on others.

Avy is the Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation director.

Donations have always been accepted at the hospital, and more recently through the efforts of the Development Council. However, in order for the hospital to apply for federal, state, and private grant opportunities, it was formally made into a not for profit 501C3 entity.

The RMH foundation board of directors is a separate board from the hospital board. The newly formed foundation will have an endowed portion, a spendable portion for projects such as the Medical Office Building (which includes the Sheehan Oncology Center), and a scholarship reimbursement fund which will be for healthcare professionals who work in Rush County.

Avy enjoys her career because she works with donors who want to give back to this community, and believe in Rush Memorial Hospital. All donations are tax deductible, and memorials, tributes, honorariums, and planned gifts are welcome.

There are still “leaves” available on the Giving Tree for donors; it is located just off the Emergency Room entrance. Speaking to groups about the foundation, meeting with donors, writing grants, and working with the foundation board are the best parts about her work, she said.

Avy can be contacted by e-mail at avy.leissring@rushmemorial.com, by phone at 932-7568, or by coming in the 13th Street entrance to the hospital (take the elevator to the third floor and look for the room with the red walls).
