l The Carthage Literary Circle met on July 10 with an All Read of Indiana Authors. We will meet again on Aug. 14 at the Carthage Community Center. Everyone is Welcome.


l 2012 Area 9 Agency Senior Art Competition for ages 60 and over runs Aug. 15 to Sept. 21 at Indiana University East Meijer Artway with open judging Aug. 10.


l F.I.T. Walkabout, 9 a.m., Rockin' Rivercrest. Meet in parking lot for Riverpointe Suites, 210 E. U.S. Hwy 52. Everyone welcome!

FRIDAY (8/17)

l Dance for middle school students from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 17 at BRMS. Music

by DJ Kevin Green. $3 per student. Proceeds benefit local cheerleading


l Anytime Fitness invites participants of the F.I.T. walkabouts to visit them at 1 p.m. Fridays. You can walk or try other exercise equipment. They do ask non-members to sign the guest register.

l A surprise Open House for the 50th birthday of Martha Cohee-Adkins will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at 787 S. Donald St., in Rushville. If you have every worked with or know Martha, her family encourages you to stop by and wish her well. Laughter, cards and small gifts are welcome. Please no guests after 7 p.m. due to her needing rest during her illness.

TUESDAY (8/28)

l Main Street Christian Church, 615 N. Main St., is offering a free hot meal and fellowship with our friends in need on the last Tuesday of every month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The hot meal will consist of chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, salads, desserts and drinks. l F.I.T. Walkabout, 5:30 p.m., Shakin' Smith Acres. Meet at First Baptist Church, 1159 S. Airport Road. Everyone welcome!

l BRMS Open House from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Taco Night from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for students and parents. Book fair.

FRIDAY (8/31)

l RCHS Band Boosters Fish Fry from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the RCHS Cafeteria before the first home varsity football game, Rushville Lions vs. Shelbyville. Menu includes fish sandwich (or hotdog), choice of apple sauce or slaw, choice of macaroni and cheese or scalloped potatoes, and homemade dessert. Tickets will be $6 in advance from any high school band student or $7 at the door. This is the largest fundraiser each year for band student to help with their trip and band equipment costs.

l Labor Day


l F.I.T. Walkabouts visits the Nature Center. Meet at the Boys & Girls Club of Rush County, 1590 N. Sexton Street, at 9 a.m. to walk to the Nature Center and explore its hidden treasures.


l F.I.T. Walkabouts meet at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the intersection of Spencer and Second Streets to walk through Laughlin Park.


l The Rushville Parks Department will sponsor the Second Annual Gospel Sing beginning at 6 p.m. at Rushville Riverside Park Amphitheater. This year's Gospel Sing will honor the military, first responders and the medical field. Many local and regional singers and musicians will be featured. Bring picnic baskets, lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy an evening of Gospel Sing. Information: Rushville Park Department at 932-4146.

l Every other month the Phoenix Lodge No. 62 F&AM hosts an all you can eat breakfast. The breakfast is 6:30 to 10 a.m., Sept. 8. The cost is $5.

l Ray's Crossing Days featuring a ÒCountry Store,Ó auction at 1 p.m., food and fun. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ray's Crossing Christian Union Church.

l F.I.T. Walkabout participants will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the gazebo in South Veterans Memorial Park.


l Brian's Cause opening ceremoinies at 9:30 a.m. on the Rush Memorial Hospital campus, 1300 N. Man St. The ÒTogether We CanÓ 2-mile-walk will follow with participants walking a two-mile loop through Rushville before returning to the RMH campus. On-site health fair from 10 a.m. to noon.
