l The Carthage Literary Circle met on July 10 with an All Read of Indiana Authors. We will meet again on Aug. 14 at the Carthage Community Center. Everyone is Welcome.

WEDNESDAY (8/15)

l 2012 Area 9 Agency Senior Art Competition for ages 60 and over runs Aug. 15 to Sept. 21 at Indiana University East Meijer Artway with open judging Aug. 10.

THURSDAY (8/16)

l F.I.T. Walkabout, 9 a.m., Rockin' Rivercrest. Meet in parking lot for Riverpointe Suites, 210 E. U.S. Hwy 52. Everyone welcome!

FRIDAY (8/17)

l Dance for middle school students from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 17 at BRMS. Music

by DJ Kevin Green. $3 per student. Proceeds benefit local cheerleading

program.

l Anytime Fitness invites participants of the F.I.T. walkabouts to visit them at 1 p.m. Fridays. You can walk or try other exercise equipment. They do ask non-members to sign the guest register.

SATURDAY (8/18)

l A Walk For Alex will be held starting with registration at 8 a.m. at the Rush County Fairgrounds. Monies raised to be used for autism awareness efforts. Info: Contact Aimee's Beauty Boutique or A. Workman, 1226 N. Perkins St., Rushville.

l A surprise Open House for the 50th birthday of Martha Cohee-Adkins will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at 787 S. Donald St., in Rushville. If you have every worked with or know Martha, her family encourages you to stop by and wish her well. Laughter, cards and small gifts are welcome. Please no guests after 7 p.m. due to her needing rest during her illness.

l Indiana amateur radio/ham testing by volunteer examiners in the Rushville area. Test 9 a.m. to noon at Rushville Public Library. Test given the third Saturday of the months of August and November. l Rush County Medical Reserve Corps will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Assembly Room at the courthouse on Thursday, Aug. 23. l The East Hill Cemetery Saunter is back. This is one of the most popular F.I.T. walkabouts. Aug. 27, meet at 5:30 p.m. on the backside of Section 14. Everyone welcome!

TUESDAY (8/28)

l Main Street Christian Church, 615 N. Main St., is offering a free hot meal and fellowship with our friends in need on the last Tuesday of every month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The hot meal will consist of chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, salads, desserts and drinks. l BRMS Open House from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Taco Night from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for students and parents. Book fair.

FRIDAY (8/31)

l RCHS Band Boosters Fish Fry from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the RCHS Cafeteria before the first home varsity football game, Rushville Lions vs. Shelbyville. Menu includes fish sandwich (or hotdog), choice of apple sauce or slaw, choice of macaroni and cheese or scalloped potatoes, and homemade dessert. Tickets will be $6 in advance from any high school band student or $7 at the door. This is the largest fundraiser each year for band student to help with their trip and band equipment costs.
