JULY

TUESDAY (7/30)

• Registration for Rushville Consolidated High School will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, and from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 1.

• The Manna Mission will be having a cook-out from 5 to 7 p.m. at Main Street Christian Church. Eat-in and Carry-outs are available. If you have any relatives or members of your churches that cannot attend the free meal, please feel free to get your loved ones a meal and take it to their homes.

• Free school supplies sponsored by The Salvation Army Tools for School program provides basic school supplies for children whose parents cannot afford the items necessary for their children to succeed in school. The Salvation Army will once again be handing out a limited number of free school kits (1 kit per student) for K-12 students of Rush County. The only requirements of eligibility to receive a school kit are that the student must attend a Rush County School and the student must be present when picking up the school kit. School kits are to be picked up at the First Church of God (1200 W. US HWY 52 – enter through the main entrance doors from the parking lot) each morning (9 a.m. to noon) this week until Friday, Aug. 2 or until supplies last. For more information call 765-932-5138.

WEDNESDAY (7/31)

• All Rush County Schools kindergartens will have Open House at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 31.

• Registration for Benjamin Rush Middle School will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 and 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 1.

• Orientation will be at 5:30 p.m. for seventh-grade students and new students to BRMS.

• Registration for Rushville Consolidated High School will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, and from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 1.

• RCHS Roaring Mentors will meet with incoming Freshman on Wednesday, July 31. They’ll start at 5:00 p.m. in the RCHS Cafeteria with general information and meet their students. Next they’ll share dinner (5:30 p.m.) and then move into classroom navigation and locker location. Parents will join their Freshman at 7:00 p.m. in Laughlin Center for a variety of information to help all have a successful start to the school year.

• Milroy School Alumni School meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Milroy United Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall. We would like to have as many alumni attend this meeting as possible. Bring your ideas. Information: Carolyn Logsdon at 765-629-2667 or 765-629-7412.

• Come meet Christy Tollett, Purdue University Student Services Coordinator, at the Rushville Public Library on July 31, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Learn about Purdue University classes, certificates and degrees in Richmond. Local Purdue degrees include Computer Graphics, Engineering Technology (Interdisciplinary and Mechanical), Industrial Technology, and Organizational Leadership. General education classes toward these degrees are available at the Danielson Center. There is still time to enroll for Fall 2013.

THURSDAY (8/1)

• The 65th annual Indiana Pioneer Engineers Club Steam Engine Show and Reunion is Aug. 1-4 at Caldwell Pioneer Acres, 3707 South CR 200W. The show grounds are easily accessible from Rushville on SR 3 south to CR 350S, east to CR 200W and south a short distance. Various activities will be held throughout the weekend including the daily parade of engines, a variety of games, booths, contests, a large flea market area, the Knights of Columbus kitchen and more. The public is invited to attend this working museum. Entries and participants from throughout the Midwest and all over the country will be in attendance and a wristband is good for the duration of the four day event.

• Milroy School Alumni Association will hold an alumni meeting at 7 p.m. at the Milroy United Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall. We would like to have as many alumni attend this meeting as possible. Bring your ideas. We will be discussing several ideas to keep the Alumni Association alive. • Rush County Health Department Immunization Clinic for children from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. in Room 105 at the Rush County Courthouse. Information: 932-3103.

• Ivy Tech Community College Richmond admissions staff and advisors will be at Rushville Public Library 10 a.m. to 2 pm. providing information on admissions requirements, financial aid, classes and degree/certificate programs and registering current students for the fall semester that starts Aug. 19. • The Rush Co. Master Gardeners and Friends will meet at 6:30 pm at the Rush County Nature Center, located behind the Rushville Elementary School. We will also be joined by members of Hancock Co. Herb Society. Marvin Kuhn will give us the history of the center, a tour of the different areas, and show us what is currently growing at the Nature Center. Anyone interested in gardening is welcome to join us.

FRIDAY (8/2)

• Manilla Fish Fry at the Manilla Fire Station 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, Breakfast 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 and Fish Fry again 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. • Mental Health America in Rush County will be having a garage sale from 9 a.m. to ?. We have household items, books, bicycles, bedding and other miscellaneous items. Proceeds will go toward Mental Health programs in Rush County. Please stop by and see us.

SATURDAY (8/3)

• Third Annual 5K Run/Walk in Carthage supports the Blue River Community Harvest and includes a 5K bicycle ride.

• Annual Pork Chop Dinner, Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department, 4-7 p.m., smoked pork chop, green beans, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, bread and butter, tomatoes, chips, applesauce, drink and dessert. $8 per person. $3 hot dog meal. Carry-outs available.

• The Cellular Connection, in a joint effort with its customers, will be donating 60,000 backpacks full of school supplies to children through its School Rocks Backpack Giveaway initiative.Local families can bring their children to the store between noon and 2 p.m. Aug. 3 to pick up a backpack filled with pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, glue and more. The participating store in Rushville is located at 1814 N. Main St. Each store will donate between 100 and 150 backpacks. Leftover backpacks will be donated to local schools.

• Rush County Farmers Market continues each Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Third and Main Streets, Rushville.

MONDAY (8/5)

• In cooperation with the Rush County Food Pantry (RCCA), the Gleaners Mobile Food Bank will be bringing a truck load of food to the Main Street Christian Church parking lot, 615 N. Main St., Rushville, on the first Monday of each month for distribution to local residents. The distribution will be made between 4 and 6 p.m. Residents will need to bring their own containers (sacks or boxes) to put their food into.

TUESDAY (8/6)

• Only Rush County Schools Kindergarten students will attend school Tuesday, Aug. 6.

• Open House at Arlington Elementary for grades 1 to 6 is from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6.

• Open House at RES East and West for grades 1 to 6 is from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6.

• The first Tuesday of every month a free health check is available at Miller’s Merry Manor, 2 to 3 p.m. Blood Pressure, blood sugar and weight checks. Refreshments will be available.

WEDNESDAY (8/7)

• Rush County Schools students grades 1 to 12 will begin school Wednesday, Aug. 7.

• Columbus Star Quilters' Guild special meeting on Aug. 7. The meeting will be an auction of the items from the generous sewing stash donation made by Carol Duncan. It will be held at the Masonic Lodge at 4131 Rocky Ford Road, the corner of Taylor and Rocky Ford Roads. All interested persons are welcome to attend. There is no charge to attend. Doors open at 8:45 a.m. and the auction starts at 9:30 a.m.

THURSDAY (8/8)

• Rush County Schools grades K to 12 will all attend school Thursday, Aug. 8.

• The annual Bohn Aluminum and Brass Division lunch begins at 11: 30 a.m., Aug. 8, Greensburg Country Club/McCamments Cattleman's Inn. Buffet lunch begins at noon.

• A 3-session series of Parenting Counts is being offered on Aug. 8, 15 & 22 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Sponsored by Purdue Extension and the Rush County Parenting Council, these classes are geared toward the parents and family members of children ages birth to age 5. The focus is raising socially and emotionally healthy children. Call 932-5974 to register by Wednesday, July 31. Cost is just $10 per family for the entire series. • The Franklin County Democratic Party third annual Free 6th District Democratic Rally at 1 p.m. at the Franklin County Hilltop Shelter (Franklin County Fairgrounds).
