l The community is invited to a Hog Roast Benefit for the family of Dennis “Duck” Brown from 4 to 9 p.m., at Rushville Elks. $8 per person. Carry out available. Drawing and Door prizes. Amish Open Mic Band and Joe Rigney will be performing during the benefit.

l Manilla School Runion for former students, teachers and staff at the Manilla Lions Club. l Rush County Community Foundation Day at Stagg’s Restaurant & Dairy Treats is Sunday, May 5, 2013. A portion of the sale from that day will go to the Rush County Community Foundation. RCCF has given over $7.5 million to Rush County students and organizations since 1991. Donations will also be accept.

MONDAY (5/6)

l In cooperation with the Rush County Food Pantry (RCCA), the Gleaners Mobile Food Bank will be bringing a truck load of food to the Main Street Christian Church parking lot, 615 N. Main St., Rushville, on the first Monday of each month for distribution to local residents. The distribution will be made between 4 and 6 p.m. beginning May 6. Residents will need to bring their own containers (sacks or boxes) to put their food into.

l Learn about the process of liquidating personal property by attending a Special Interest presentation by Nancy Smith of Vintage Rose Auctions & Appraisal Service of Knightstown at 6 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the Rush County Courthouse. l Do you know just a little about Microsoft Excel©, but wish you knew more? Find out how to take your knowledge of this versatile program up several notches with Rush County Lifelong Learning’s “Excel Excellence” class. This class will be held Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. through May 7, at 126 S. Main St., Rushville. It is taught by Ron Shields. Call 765-932-7191 for more information on topics offered.


l The Rushville Music Study Club will have their Annual Salad Bar at 6:30 p.m. at St Paul’s Methodist Church. Beverages will be provided. Remember to bring your salad, music and table service.


l Shelby County Players’ presents Plaza Suite by Neil Simon Thursday through Saturday, May 9, 10, and 11 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m. at The Strand Theatre, 215 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville.

l The Heart of Rushville will host a vendor meeting for its Farmers and Artisans Market at 7 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the Rush County Courthouse.  Anyone interested in being a vendor at this summer’s market should attend. l RCHS Annual POPS Concert, 7:30 p.m., all choirs, Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are on sale and are $4 each, with all proceeds going towards the choir’s 2014 trip to Los Angeles. Tickets can be purchased through any choir member or by contacting Mr. Grizzard at 932-3901 or

l Rush Co. United Santa Helpers (formerly Toys for Tots) will begin their first benefit ride at the Rushville Legion with sign ups from 11 a.m. to noon. The donation is $10 per bike and $5 per rider. The ride schedule will be available the day of the ride which begins at Rushville Eagles. The meal starts at 4 p.m. and will be $5 for non-riders. The evening includes an auction and music. Help Rushville Legion Riders and Rushville Eagle Riders raise the funds for the program. l Heart of Rushville presents the Rushville Celebrity Roast with Coach Cinda Brown, 7 p.m., Elks. Business attire. Tickets prices $25 individuals, $40 couples, $150 table for eight. For ticket information please contact the Rushville Chamber of Commerce or Rushville City Hall.

l The Heart of Rushville sponsoring Rush County’s “Biggest Yard Sale” from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverside Park Amphitheater. Sellers can set up as early as 6:30 a.m. and must rent at least one table for $5 but will keep all sales proceeds. Sellers cannot bring their own tables, they may bring one wardrobe rack for each table rented. Tables available on first come first served basis. Chairperson Kim Rathz is looking for vendors who will sell donuts/rolls and coffee in the morning and snacks and soft drinks/water from late morning to close. l The public is invited to this year’s poultry workshop starting at 9 a.m. in the Rush County Fairgrounds Livestock Pavillion. Concessions will be open, a poultry swap will be going on, and a silent auction will be taking place. Beginning at 10 a.m. guest speakers will present on topics commercial meat and layers, genetics, nutrition, waterfowl and showmanship. l The Boys and Girls Club of Rush County hosts monthly dances for elementary school age children from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $3 per person. D.J. is Kevin Green. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club.


l Fair Queen contestants hold their Queen Car Wash from 9 a.m. to noon at Hubler Auto Center, Rushville.

l The Manilla Town & Country Homemakers Club will have a dinner meeting at 6 p.m. May 22 at the Cow Palace in Shelbyville. Marjorie Carmony will host the evening and Sharon Wooley will give devotions.


l Rush County Farmers Market begins May 25 and continues each Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Third and Main Streets, Rushville.

l Relay for Life Event Full Service Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Admiral Service Station, South Main St., Rushville. We will pump gas, wash windshields and serve food for donations to Rush County Relay for Life. Music, food and games for kids. Discount gas price.

l Physicals for the RCHS 2013-2014 school year will take place from 5-7 p.m. at Rush Memorial Hospital. Physical are good for one year from the date you received it and must be on file for participation in school sports.


l In the spirit of giving back, Joe and Nancy Kimmell are underwriting a concert by the nationally acclaimed duo of Wil Maring and Robert Bowlin at The 201 Building in downtown Rushville. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the music promptly at 7:30 p.m. Pastry and refreshments served. No admission fee. Free-will donation. Reservations required.
