APRIL

SATURDAY (4/6)

l The American Red Cross is looking for caring, committed people, who are interested in becoming local Disaster Action Team volunteers, and is offering an introductory Disaster Services Overview class from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6 at the Rushville Public Library, 130 W. Third Street. Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers are on call to respond year-round to local emergencies such as house fires, assisting families with their immediate needs of food, clothing and shelter. There is no charge for the training, but registration is required. To register call the Muncie office at 765-284-3361 or 800-480-4403.

l Tox-away Days are the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon at Smiley Avenue.

l Turkey and Noodle Dinner by Teresa’s Kancer Krushers for Relay for Life, 4 to 7 p.m., New Salem Lions Club. Advance tickets are $7. At the door, $8. Carry outs available. Silent auction. l Rushville Eagles will host an all you can eat Fish Fry dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. $7 per person. Open to the public, Families with children are welcome to enjoy the meal smoke free upstairs.

l Raleigh Community Club Dance, 7:30-10:30 p.m., weekly on Saturdays. Live band. Open to all ages.

SUNDAY (4/7)

l Rush County Extension Homemakers are hosting a 100th birthday party at 2 p.m. in the Root Building at the Rush County Fairgrounds. There will be lots to see and do. All current and former

Homemakers are encouraged to attend. Open to the public.

l RMH Sheehan Cancer Center Day at Stagg’s Dairy Treats is Sunday, April 7.

MONDAY (4/8)

l “Look Good, Feel Better” quarterly workshop for women who have had or are going through cancer treatment from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Kenneth L. Earnest Family Conference Center at Rush Memorial Hospital. Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, the workshop provides information and cosmetic advice to women battling cancer. Open to the public at no cost. For more information call 932-7534.

l Parents and family are invited to join in the Band Boosters which meets at 6 p.m. the second Monday of each month in the RCHS Band room. Families with middle school and high school band students are encouraged to come to meetings and be a part of the Band Booster program. Information: 765-561-3000.

TUESDAY (4/9)

l Do you know just a little about Microsoft Excel©, but wish you knew more? Find out how to take your knowledge of this versatile program up several notches with Rush County Lifelong Learning’s “Excel Excellence” class. This class will be held Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. April 9 through May 7, at 126 S. Main St., Rushville. The cost for the 5-week class is just $35, and it will be taught by Ron Shields. The class size is limited to 18, so call 765-932-7191 to register soon.

WEDNESDAY (4/10)

l The Rushville Music Study Club will meet at 7 p.m. at St. Paul Methodist Church. The program chair is Mindy Conklin and the hostess is Nancy Mitchell. This is an important meeting and everyone’s attendance is needed.       

THURSDAY (4/11)

l RCHS Drama Department presents their spring musical, “Anything Goes” April 11, 12, 13 and 14 at the Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts.

FRIDAY (4/12)

l Milroy United Methodist Church Semi-Annual Rummage Sale, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 12 and 8 a.m. to noon April 13. Saturday, April 13, fill a sack for $2. This year the sale will feature the new boutique for finer name brand clothing.

l Arlington Elementary PTO Chicken Fry, 4:30 to 7 p.m. $5 in advance and $7 at door. Meal includes chicken, mashed potato/gravy, green beans, dessert, roll and drink.

SATURDAY (4/13)

l Knights of Columbus Chicken Fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Adults $10 and children $6. Carryouts available. Menu includes: Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, rolls, applesauce and cake. All white meat $1 extra. Open to the public. Information: 932-2277.

l Rush County Schools Kindergarten Round-Up for 2013-2014 School Year (Age 5 by August 1, 2013). April 13, 2013 – 8 a.m. to noon, Rushville Elementary School West (enter RESW sidewalk.) Parents please bring the following information with you: Enrollment Form on line at http://res.rushville.k12.in.us/, birth certificate and shot records. Community fair will also be held during this time.

l Posey Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. food drive and breakfast, 7 to 10 a.m. Bring non-perishable food items for the local food pantry or cash donations. Open to the public.

l 15th Annual 4-H Horse & Pony Pork Chop Supper, 5-8 p.m., at the Rush/Shelby Energy Community Building, Rush County Fairgrounds in Rushville. Pork Chop meal $8. Kid’s hot dog meal $4. Carry out and extra pork chops available.

l Raleigh Community Club Dance, 7:30-10:30 p.m., weekly on Saturdays. Live band. Open to all ages.

l Ray’s Crossing Christian Union Church is having a free love offering breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Biscuits & sausage gravy, pancakes, sausage patties, eggs, fried potatoes and beverages.

SUNDAY (4/14)

l The Historical Society will sponsor a group field trip to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in New Castle. Open to all, attendees will meet at the Gowdy House Museum, 619 N. Perkins, at 2:15 p.m.. The group will car pool and caravan to the Hall of Fame for a 3 p.m. tour led by Indiana Hall of Fame Executive Director and Rushville graduate Chris May. Admission $3 per person payable to Rush County Historical Society treasurer Marvin Kuhn. Reservations required by April 7 by contacting Kuhn at 765-663-2438 or mdkuhn1946@hotmail.com. Dinner optional at Montgomery Steakhouse.

l Would you like the opportunity to appear in several outrageous comedy skits? Then we want you! Auditions for Rush County Player’s season closing sketch comedy show, “I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together,” are from 6-8 p.m. April 14, and from 7-9 p.m. April 16, at RCP’s new location, 306 N. l The Boys and Girls Club of Rush County hosts monthly dances for elementary school age children from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $3 per person. D.J. is Kevin Green. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club.

l RCHS Prom.

l RCP Movies on Main Street will show 2 classic Indiana sports films, ”Hoosiers” and “Breaking Away.” Show time at 7:30, admission $5 for the double-feature, and concessions available. 306 N. Main Street.

l Elks will host a spring flea market day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 223 E. Third St. People can buy a table to set up and shopping is open to the public. For table information contact Marie Philpot at 938-1307. Proceeds will support Elk’s community outreach programs.

THURSDAY (4/25)

l RCHS Band Department presents their Jazz Appreciation Month Concert at 7 p.m. in the Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts at RCHS. Big bands from the middle school and the high school will be playing swing and blues from the 40’s and 50’s, fusion from the 70’s, Latin jazz and some original composiitions. One combo from BRMS and two combos from RCHS will be playing a mix of music that will demonstrate their improvisational and musical skills. The concert is free, but the band boosters will be accepting donations to help support the jazz program in Rush County Schools.

FRIDAY (4/26)

l Rush County Player’s rendition of “Inherit the Wind,” show dates are Apr. 26, 27 & 28 and May 3, 4 & 5 at RCP’s new location, 306 N. Main St., Rushville. l Mayor’s 5K Run/Walk Mayor’s 5K Run/Walk supporting Autism Awareness. The course for Mayor Pavey’s Run/Walk will exhibit the trails of the Rushville Parks and Recreation Department. Anyone interested in registering for this

l St. Mary Catholic School annual Green and White Gala.  The Gala is an opportunity to celebrate St. Mary School. Guest speaker will be John Green (SMS 1990 graduate), the son of Daniel and the late Elizabeth “Betty” Green. All are welcome to attend.
