MAY

FRIDAY (5/2)

• The Milroy United Methodist Church will hold its semi-annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, May 2 and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3. Saturday is "fill-a-sack" for $2.

• RES East and West will be hosting their annual Family Fun Fest on Friday, May 2. Games and food from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with basket raffle and silent auction at 6:45 p.m. The Rushville community is invited to attend and enjoy an evening of family fun (students must be accompanied by an adult). This year activities include a variety of games, food, raffle baskets, and a silent auction. Food will be available to purchase for $3 per person (choice of hotdog or hamburger with chips and drink). A wristband for all games is $3 per student or $10 per family.

• Little Flatrock Christian Church is holding their annual yard sale May 2-3 at the Conservation Club on Hwy 44 east of Rushville. Times include 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Saturday there will be a car wash and bake sale as well. All proceeds go to fund the Appalachian Mission Trip.

SATURDAY (5/3)

• Team ACC breakfast that will be this Saturday at the Posey Township Volunteer Fire Dept. in Arlington. It will be from 7-11 with a free will offering. The menu is pancakes, sausage patties, sausage gravy and biscuits, and scrambled eggs.

• The Manilla School reunion will be held Saturday, May 3 at the Manilla Lion's Club building. Former students, teachers and staff are welcome to attend. Registration will begin at noon with the meal being served at 1 p.m. The cost is $14. Checks should be made payable to the Manilla Alumni Association and mailed to Teola Carmony, 2007 August Court, Shelbyville, IN 46176 by April 23. Honored classes will be 1944, 1954 and 1964. • The 11th annual St. Vincent de Paul Charity Tea will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3 in the parish hall at 4218 E. Michigan Rd., Shelbyville. Tickets are $20 and available by calling Pat Barley at 317-398-7556 or 317-398-9804.

• The Heart of Rushville will be sponsoring Rush County's Biggest Yard Sale on Saturday, May 3, at the Riverside Park Amphitheater. The sale will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Due to recent sell-outs, the RCHS Choral Department will now be putting on two Pops Concerts this year - 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3 and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4 in the Laughlin Center. The concert features songs chosen by RCHS students from groups such as Imagine Dragons, The Beatles, Pharrell Williams, Norah Jones, Katy Perry, the Oak Ridge Boys, and many more. All five choirs of the school will perform, along with student groups Cloud 9 and Lovers' Dozen, and will be accompanied by guitars and drums.

MONDAY (5/5)

• Heirloom Plants is the topic of a special Interest lesson being presented by Rush County Master Gardener Jane Hallgarth at 7 p.m.on Monday, May 5, at the Rush County Fair Office, 1299 N Sexton Street. Call Purdue Extension – Rush County at 932-5974 with questions or to register. Free and open to the public, this program is sponsored by the Rush County Extension Homemakers.

WEDNESDAY (5/14)

• The Rush Co. Health Department will hold their next Senior Screening on Wednesday, May 14 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Rush Co. Senior Center. The screening includes weight, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, hemoglobin and blood sugar. Also, health education will be included during the screening program. Referrals to private physicians will be made when needed. This is available to all Rush Co. Senior citizens at no cost. Any questions may be directed to 765-932-3103.

THURSDAY (5/15)

• The Rushville Consolidated High School Band Boosters, in partnership with the Big Joe Duskin Foundation, will be presenting the Ball State University Jazz Lab Ensemble in concert at the Laughlin Center at 7 p.m. May 15. Tickets are available from local band students, at Benjamin Rush Middle School and at Second Hand Sue’s at 247 N. Main St., Rushville. All tickets are $10.

SATURDAY (5/17)

• The 4th annual Ashley Spurlin Memorial 5K walk/run will be held Saturday, May 17, at the RCHS cross country course and track. Registration is from 9 to 9:45 a.m. with the non-competitive walk/run starting at 10 a.m. All money raised goes to scholarships to RCHS students that want to attend Indiana State University.

TUESDAY (5/20)

• National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association, Indiana Chapter 0813, has a monthly meeting at 10 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Ponderosa Steakhouse, corner of North Lincoln St. and Fourth St., Greensburg. Optional lunch afterward. We have guest speakers on a variety of topics, interesting programs, and items discussed. Come meet your current and retired Federal Employee comrades. • The 30th annual Mays Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, May 24, at the Mays Elementary School gym. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. with group pictures taken at 5:30 p.m. The meal will be at 6:30 p.m. All graduates, former teachers and friends are cordially invited to attend. • The community food pantry, 109 East Third Street, Rushville is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Bring photo ID. Donations welcomed.

• In cooperation with the Rush County Food Pantry (RCCA), the Gleaners Mobile Food Bank will be bringing a truck load of food to the Main Street Christian Church parking lot, 615 N. Main St., Rushville, on the first Monday of each month for distribution to local residents.

The distribution will be made between 4 and 6 p.m. Residents will need to bring their own containers (sacks or boxes) to put their food into.

• Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown. Use the east entrance at the corner of Adams and Locust streets. Information: 765-313-1637.
