FRIDAY (5/17)

l The Boys and Girls Club of Rush County hosts monthly dances for elementary school age children from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $3 per person. D.J. is Kevin Green. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club.

l St. Joseph Church in Shelbyville annual Spring Parish Festival continues May 17 and 18. Hours are Fri. 5-11 p.m., and Sat. noon-11 p.m. Events include Fried Chicken Dinner on Sunday (11 a.m.-2 p.m.) at Knights of Columbus (Adults $10, children $5); children’s games and rides; authentic Mexican food; Pork Chop dinner (Fri. only); BBQ chicken dinner (Sat. only); Raffle drawing Sunday afternoon. l Fair Queen contestants hold their Queen Car Wash from 9 a.m. to noon at Hubler Auto Center, Rushville.

l Garden Fest, Rush County Fairgrounds.

l Knights of Columbus Chicken Fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Adults $10 and children $6. Carryouts available. Menu includes: Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, rolls, applesauce and cake. All white meat $1 extra. Open to the public. Information: 932-2277.

l Fundraiser for Janelle Bedel & Family, 1 to 4 p.m., 201 Building on Main Street, Rushville. Multiple vendors on sate, each donating a portion of proceeds to help defray Janelle’s medical costs in her fight against Mesothelioma. Silent auction, raffles, goodies.

TUESDAY (5/21)

l NARFE meeting at 10 a.m. at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Greensburg with optional lunch following the meeting. If you are a retired federal employee or currently an active employee and have an interest in attending chapter meetings, join us.


l The Manilla Town & Country Homemakers Club will have a dinner meeting at 6 p.m. May 22 at the Cow Palace in Shelbyville. Marjorie Carmony will host the evening and Sharon Wooley will give devotions.


l Band Awards Banquet, 6 p.m., RCHS Cafeteria.


l Waggener Community Pool will open for the season.

l Rush County Farmers Market begins May 25 and continues each Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Third and Main Streets, Rushville.

l Relay for Life Event Full Service Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Admiral Service Station, South Main St., Rushville. We will pump gas, wash windshields and serve food for donations to Rush County Relay for Life. Music, food and games for kids. Discount gas price.

l Raleigh Community Club Dance, 7:30-10:30 p.m., weekly on Saturdays. Live band. Open to all ages.

l Memorial Day.


l Physicals for the RCHS 2013-2014 school year will take place from 5-7 p.m. at Rush Memorial Hospital. Physical are good for one year from the date you received it and must be on file for participation in school sports.

l In the spirit of giving back, Joe and Nancy Kimmell are underwriting a concert by the nationally acclaimed duo of Wil Maring and Robert Bowlin at The 201 Building in downtown Rushville. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the music promptly at 7:30 p.m. Pastry and refreshments served. No admission fee. Free-will donation. Reservations required. l In cooperation with the Rush County Food Pantry (RCCA), the Gleaners Mobile Food Bank will be bringing a truck load of food to the Main Street Christian Church parking lot, 615 N. Main St., Rushville, on the first Monday of each month for distribution to local residents. The distribution will be made between 4 and 6 p.m. Residents will need to bring their own containers (sacks or boxes) to put their food into.

FRIDAY (6/7)

l RCP’s season-ending production of “I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together.” Named after Carol Burnett’s theme song, and featuring skits from her classic sketch comedy show, RCP’s version will also feature selections from Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Saturday Night Live, Mad TV, The Tonite Show with Johnny Carson and others. Shows are scheduled for June 7, 8 and 9 at RCP’s new home, 306 N. Main., Rushville.


l Rush County Fair Queen Pageant, 7 p.m., Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts.

l Changing Footprints Chicken Fry Dinner with homemade desserts, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Knights of Columbus, 227 E. Third St., Rushville. Bake sale and silent auction. Proceeds support Changing Footprints shoe collection and distribution.

l June 9 to 15 will be Food Pantry Days at Waggener Community Pool. Those who bring canned goods for the Food Pantry will get a $1 off admission.

l The RCHS Class of 1988 will celebrate their 25 year reunion by gathering at the Riverside Park Ampitheater in Rushville at 5 p.m. June 15 with plans to stay for the free Summer Concert with Georgia Satellites that night.

l The 15th annual Jason D. Kuhn Memorial Golf Scramble at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course. Tee time 12:30 p.m. Registration beginning 11 a.m. Community hog roast sponsored by Avery Dennison immediately following the announcement of the tournament winners. The public is invited to attend the hog roast and make a donation. l The class reunion is scheduled for June 22, the same day as the RHS/RCHS Annual Reunion. The schedule, however, has been arranged so that members of the Class of 1963 can attend both events. The ’63 Reunion will be held in the 201 Building in Rushville. Information: 932-4118.
