MAY

FRIDAY (5/17)

l The Boys and Girls Club of Rush County hosts monthly dances for elementary school age children from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $3 per person. D.J. is Kevin Green. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club.

l St. Joseph Church in Shelbyville annual Spring Parish Festival continues May 17 and 18. Hours are Fri. 5-11 p.m., and Sat. noon-11 p.m. Events include Fried Chicken Dinner on Sunday (11 a.m.-2 p.m.) at Knights of Columbus (Adults $10, children $5); children’s games and rides; authentic Mexican food; Pork Chop dinner (Fri. only); BBQ chicken dinner (Sat. only); Raffle drawing Sunday afternoon. Ride tickets are on sale now ($14 for 20 tickets) at: Dean’s Dry Cleaning & Laundry, Quality Cleaners, Knights of Columbus, Mathies Landscaping and Sanders Jewelry Store.

SATURDAY (5/18)

l Fair Queen contestants hold their Queen Car Wash from 9 a.m. to noon at Hubler Auto Center, Rushville.

l Ashley Spurlin Memorial 5K. Registration 9:00 - 9:45 AM - Race begins 10:00 AM - At RCHS Cross Country course beginning at Benjamin Rush Middle School - $10 fee with all proceeds to benefit Ashley’s Scholarship - for more information contact Mark or Jana Spurlin (spurlin1@gmail.com) or 765-932-4765.

l Garden Fest, Rush County Fairgrounds.

l Knights of Columbus Chicken Fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Adults $10 and children $6. Carryouts available. Menu includes: Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, rolls, applesauce and cake. All white meat $1 extra. Open to the public. Information: 932-2277.

l Sausage, Eggs and Biscuits & Gravy breakfast, 7-10 a.m., Lewisville Masonic Lodge #72 and Eastern Star #463. Free will offering.

l Raleigh Community Club Dance, 7:30-10:30 p.m., weekly on Saturdays. Live band. Open to all ages.

SUNDAY (5/19)

l Fundraiser for Janelle Bedel & Family, 1 to 4 p.m., 201 Building on Main Street, Rushville. Multiple vendors on sate, each donating a portion of proceeds to help defray Janelle’s medical costs in her fight against Mesothelioma. Silent auction, raffles, goodies.

TUESDAY (5/21)

l NARFE meeting at 10 a.m. at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Greensburg with optional lunch following the meeting. If you are a retired federal employee or currently an active employee and have an interest in attending chapter meetings, join us.

WEDNESDAY (5/22)

l The Manilla Town & Country Homemakers Club will have a dinner meeting at 6 p.m. May 22 at the Cow Palace in Shelbyville. Marjorie Carmony will host the evening and Sharon Wooley will give devotions.

THURSDAY (5/23)

l Band Awards Banquet, 6 p.m., RCHS Cafeteria.

SATURDAY (5/25)

l Waggener Community Pool will open for the season.

l Rush County Farmers Market begins May 25 and continues each Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Third and Main Streets, Rushville.

l Relay for Life Event Full Service Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Admiral Service Station, South Main St., Rushville. We will pump gas, wash windshields and serve food for donations to Rush County Relay for Life. Music, food and games for kids. Discount gas price.

l Raleigh Community Club Dance, 7:30-10:30 p.m., weekly on Saturdays. Live band. Open to all ages.

l Memorial Day.

WEDNESDAY (5/29)

l Physicals for the RCHS 2013-2014 school year will take place from 5-7 p.m. at Rush Memorial Hospital. Physical are good for one year from the date you received it and must be on file for participation in school sports.

l In the spirit of giving back, Joe and Nancy Kimmell are underwriting a concert by the nationally acclaimed duo of Wil Maring and Robert Bowlin at The 201 Building in downtown Rushville. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the music promptly at 7:30 p.m. Pastry and refreshments served. No admission fee. Free-will donation. Reservations required.
