• Open House at Milroy Elementary for grades 1 to 6, is 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

• All parents of band students in middle school and high school are invited and encouraged to volunteer and help through the Rush County Band Boosters Organization. The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 in the RCHS Band Room. While this meeting is on a Tuesday because of scheduling conflicts, the Band Boosters regular meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Band Room. . • Join in the Blue River Young Marines orientation at 6:30 p.m. at Dodd's Hall in Morristown.The Young Marines is not a recruitment organization for the military, but a world-wide organization for youth, both boys and girls, between the ages of 8-18. The program emphasizes self-esteem, self-discipline, self-worth and drug, alcohol and tobacco resistance. • 5th Annual Walk for Alex and final annual 5K to help raise autism awareness. All proceeds to into an on-going endowment fund with the Rush County Community Foundation. Grants help aide families and schools in Rush County that have autistic children. Register 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Rush County Fairgrounds. • From 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Girl Scouts of Central Indiana will have an information booth in Rushville at the Kroger store located at 202 S Main St. Adults and girls will have the opportunity to learn more about Girl Scouting and how they can become involved with Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts offers the opportunity to develop leadership skills, become adventurers, and volunteer with local community service projects while making new friends and fond memories. Boy Scouts of America will also be present. Girls Scouts entering kindergarten in the fall are eligible to register as a Girl Scout Daisy. Girl Scouts has age levels for all girls from k-12. • Mark your calendars now to support the band program at RCHS by attending the Band Boosters Annual Fish Fry before the first Rushville Lions home football game. The Fish Fry will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, in the RCHS Cafeteria. Tickets are available from any RCHS band student or at the door. A portion of the ticket sales will go into the band student accounts and can be used by students to help with expenses for band trips or for band equipment and supplies they may need to maintain their instruments throughout the year.

• Rush Fest Mayor’s Breakfast at the Elks Lodge followed by Plum Creek Christian Church's Amped Up 2013 service at the Riverside Park Amphitheater beginning at 11 a.m.

• Plum Creek Christian Church (PCCC) will be hosting "Amped Up 2013" at 11 a.m. at Rushville's Riverside Park Amphitheater on Sunday, Sept. 22. This is PCCC's annual contemporary and casual community outdoor service. If you are looking to visit a church, this is a very good opportunity to see what PCCC is all about. Everyone is asked to bring a lawn chair from home and encouraged to bring a covered dish/dessert for the meal afterward. PCCC will have some chairs on hand as well. Please enter at the Morgan Street entrance where you will be greeted by volunteers who will help you get parked and will handle any other needs you may have. PCCC is excited for you to meet their new youth minister who will be handling the fun activities along with his team. The afternoon will wrap up at 3 p.m. Come get your praise on with PCCC.

•The 2013 reunion is being planned for Sunday, Sept. 22 at the New Salem Lion’s Club. Much of the arrangements will be the same as previous reunions with reservation information to be sent out late August.

• The community food pantry, 109 East Third Street, Rushville is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Bring photo ID. Donations welcomed.

• In cooperation with the Rush County Food Pantry (RCCA), the Gleaners Mobile Food Bank will be bringing a truck load of food to the Main Street Christian Church parking lot, 615 N. Main St., Rushville, on the first Monday of each month for distribution to local residents. The distribution will be made between 4 and 6 p.m. Residents will need to bring their own containers (sacks or boxes) to put their food into.

• Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown. Use the east entrance at the corner of Adams and Locust streets. Information: 765-313-1637.
