TUESDAY (4/23)

l Do you know just a little about Microsoft Excel©, but wish you knew more? Find out how to take your knowledge of this versatile program up several notches with Rush County Lifelong Learning’s “Excel Excellence” class. This class will be held Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. through May 7, at 126 S. Main St., Rushville. The cost for the 5-week class is just $35 or you may pay per class attended. It is taught by Ron Shields. Call 765-932-7191 for more information on topics offered each week.                   

WEDNESDAY (4/24)

l Manilla Town & Country Homemakers Club will meet at 6 p.m. for a dinner meeting at the Cow Palace in Shelbyville. Membership dues will be collected.

l Noble Niters, 7 p.m., New Salem Church Education building. Hostess Marlene Fudge. Assistant hostess Karen Hoeing. Roll Call: What is your middle name? Inspiration Connie Meyer. This is a change of meeting place.

l Rush County Veterans Memorial Foundation meeting, 7 p.m., downstairs at American Legion Post 150. All former military are welcome.

THURSDAY (4/25)

l RCHS Band Department presents their Jazz Appreciation Month Concert at 7 p.m. in the Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts at RCHS. Public invited. Big bands from the middle school and the high school will be playing swing and blues from the 40’s and 50’s, fusion from the 70’s, Latin jazz and some original composiitions. One combo from BRMS and two combos from RCHS will be playing a mix of music that will demonstrate their improvisational and musical skills. The concert is free, but the band boosters will be accepting donations to help support the jazz program in Rush County Schools.

l Rush County Player’s rendition of “Inherit the Wind,” show dates are Apr. 26, 27 & 28 and May 3, 4 & 5 at RCP’s new location, 306 N. Main St., Rushville. SATURDAY (4/27)

l Mayor’s 5K Run/Walk Mayor’s 5K Run/Walk supporting Autism Awareness. The course for Mayor Pavey’s Run/Walk will exhibit the trails of the Rushville Parks and Recreation Department. Anyone interested in registering for this event may do so on the City’s Website or pick up registration forms at the Mayor’s Office, 133 W. First St., Rushville. Information: 765-932-3907. l Knights of Columbus Chicken Fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Adults $10 and children $6. Carryouts available. Menu includes: Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, rolls, applesauce and cake. All white meat $1 extra. Open to the public. Information: 932-2277.

l T-Ball Jamboree.

l Beta Sigma Phi sorority will host a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Conservation Club. All proceed will be donated to Rushville Memorial Hospital’s Kedo’s Kids pediatric center fund.

l St. Mary Catholic School annual Green and White Gala.  The Gala is an opportunity to celebrate St. Mary School. Guest speaker will be John Green (SMS 1990 graduate), the son of Daniel and the late Elizabeth “Betty” Green. All are welcome to attend. l Little Flatrock Christian Church sandwiches and salad bar fundraiser open to the public, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., New Salem Lion’s Club, free will offering. Salads, sandwiches, desserts and drinks.

MONDAY (4/29)

l Public meeting on Rushville’s Combined Sewer Overflow system at with the Board of Works, City Council, Utility Board and CSO Steering Committee at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 270 W. 15th Street. IDEM – special guests will be present to take questions regarding the requirements related to CSO’s. This meeting was originally scheduled for April 23 and will instead be held April 29.

l RCHS Band Department presents their Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts.

l Tri Kappa Bingo. Play to win a variety of Vera Bradley or Longaberger items. Bingo fun for all. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Event begin at 7 p.m., RCHS Cafeteria. $12 per ticket. Please bring a non-perishable food item of your choice to be entered into the raffle. Must be 18 to attend.

FRIDAY (5/3)

l St. Paul’s Education Committee will host a Family Movie Night from 6 to 9 p.m. in the church basement. Pizza, drinks, dessert and popcorn provided. l RCHS Annual POPS Concert, 7:30 p.m., all choirs, Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets through RCHS.

l Rush Co. United Santa Helpers (formerly Toys for Tots) will begin their first benefit ride at the Rushville Legion with sign ups from 11 a.m. to noon. The donation is $10 per bike and $5 per rider. The ride schedule will be available the day of the ride which begins at Rushville Eagles. The meal starts at 4 p.m. and will be $5 for non-riders. The evening includes an auction and music. Help Rushville Legion Riders and Rushville Eagle Riders raise the funds for the program. l Heart of Rushville presents the Rushville Celebrity Roast with Coach Cinda Brown, 7 p.m., Elks. Business attire. Tickets prices $25 individuals, $40 couples, $150 table for eight. For ticket information please contact the Rushville Chamber of Commerce or Rushville City Hall.

l The Heart of Rushville sponsoring Rush County’s “Biggest Yard Sale” from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverside Park Amphitheater. Sellers can set up as early as 6:30 a.m. and must rent at least one table for $5 but will keep all sales proceeds. Sellers cannot bring their own tables, they may bring one wardrobe rack for each table rented. Tables available on first come first served basis. Chairperson Kim Rathz is looking for vendors who will sell donuts/rolls and coffee in the morning and snacks and soft drinks/water from late morning to close. l The Kelly Miller Circus is coming to town with performances at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., May 15, at the Rush County Conservation Club grounds. l Fair Queen contestants hold their Queen Car Wash from 9 a.m. to noon at Hubler Auto Center, Rushville.

l Physicals for the RCHS 2013-2014 school year will take place from 5-7 p.m. at Rush Memorial Hospital. Physical are good for one year from the date you received it and must be on file for participation in school sports.

l Tox-away Days are the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon at Smiley Avenue. Join in making this a Clean, Green Rush County.

l The Boys & Girls Club of Rush County will now be open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

l The community food pantry, 109 East Third Street, Rushville is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Bring photo ID. Donations welcomed.

l Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown. Use the east entrance at the corner of Adams and Locust streets. Information: 765-313-1637.

l A parent support group meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Rushville Public Library meeting room. This group is for parents, guardians, caregivers or any family member of someone with mental or physical challenges. Those attending the group decide the topics.
