JANUARY

FRIDAY (1/4)

L Every Friday from Jan. 4-25, participants of F.I.T. Walkabouts are invited to Anytime Fitness at 4 p.m. Non-members will be asked to sign the guest register.

SATURDAY (1/5)

l Tox-away Days are the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon at Smiley Avenue.

l Chicken fry at Rushville Knights of Columbus. Serving 5 to 8 p.m. $10 for adults, $6 for children, $1 extra for all white meat. Open to the public. Carry-out available.

MONDAY (1/7)

l Join in a FIT Walkabout, 1 p.m., Boys & Girls Club - inside or outside. Meet at the main entrance, 1590 N. Sexton St., Rushville. FIT Walkabouts are sponsored by the Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County. Their goal is to promote and encourage a fit and active lifestyle for residents of Rush County. TUESDAY (1/8)

l Mayor Mike Pavey will deliver the State of the City address at 7 p.m., 201 Building, 201 N. Main St., Rushville. The public is invited.

l Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County monthly meeting, 4:30 p.m., at the Boys & Girls Club of Rush County.

WEDNESDAY (1/9)

l Rush County Health Department Senior Screening, no cost, 9 a.m. to noon, Rush County Senior Center. Information: 932-3103.

THURSDAY (1/10)

l Take advantage of opportunities to stay fit every Thursday through Jan. 31. Walk with Indianapolis Hiking Club as they visit Rushville with “Get Fit On the Fitness Trail.”  Meet at 3:45 p.m. in the parking lot east of Rushville Consolidated High School. This is part of the FIT Walkabout schedule.

l Local 1118 UAW Roots Blower Retirees pitch in dinner, 11:30 a.m., Eastside Methodist Church, Connersville. Bring filled covered dish. Bring spouse/friend. Widows welcome.

FRIDAY (1/11)

l The community is invited to join in the Grand Opening of The Gathering at 4 p.m. at 245 N. Main St., Rushville. The ribbon cutting will include free hot coffee, tea or chocolate. Larry Dimick will begin live music at 6 p.m. reNEW is located in the back of The Gathering and is offering clean, gently used clothing.

SATURDAY (1/12)

l Tenderloin supper to support the RCHS Band programs, 4:30 to 7 p.m., RCHS cafeteria. $6 in advance from any band student or $7 at the door.

l The regular monthly meeting of the Rush County Genealogical Society will be at 11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge.  We will be discussing possible program ideas for the year.

TUESDAY (1/15)

l Financial Aid Night at 6:30 p.m. in the RCHS cafeteria. A representative from the Financial Aid Office at Franklin College will be here to discuss the process of filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, other financial aid information will be available to parents concerning applying for scholarships and grants.

l Rush County 4-H enrollment for the 2013 fair season is underway. Youth in grades 3 through 12 who are interested in enrolling in 4-H may contact the Rush County Extension Office, located on the first floor of the courthouse, for an enrollment form or enroll on-line at www.ces.purdue.edu/Rush. To receive an enrollment form via mail, call 932-5974. On-time enrollment ends Jan. 15. Youth in grades K – 2 who are interested in enrolling in 4-H Cloverbuds may also do so at this time.

l FIT Walkabout, 4:30 p.m., Riverside Park. Meet by the Amphitheater to view the ice skating rink (in case of snow or extreme cold, meet in the Courthouse.) Information 932-5974.

THURSDAY (1/17)

l Be sure to enroll in the Rush County 2013 Winter Challenge for Small Steps to Health & Wealth. The Challenge runs from Jan. 13 to Feb. 23, and the deadline to enroll is Jan. 17. Enrollement forms can be obtained at Purdue Extension - Rush County or the HR Dept. of Rush Memorial Hospital. They can also be downloaded at www.extension.purdue.edu/rush. This is a project of the Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County.

l Rush County Parenting Council Meeting, 4 p.m., Room 102 at the Rush County Courthouse.

TUESDAY (1/22)

l FIT Walkabout, 7 a.m., Rush County Courthouse – inside or outside. Meet on the 1st floor of the Rush County Courthouse. Information 932-5974.

SATURDAY (1/26)

l Rush County 4-H beef and dairy beef weigh-in will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Jan. 26 in the Livestock Pavilion on the Rush County Fairgrounds. Information and enrollment forms are available to pick up in the Rush County Extension office and will be available on Jan. 26, but will not be mailed to members. ALL animals that exhibit at the Rush County Fair will need to have an RFID tag, which will also be given on the day of the weigh-in.    Information: 932-5974. Snow date is Feb. 2.

l The Rushville Riverside Park Amphitheater Committee will announce the 2013 Season at 7 p.m. at the 201 Building, 201 N. Main St., Rushville. The public is invited.

FRIDAY (2/1)

l The Boys and Girls Club of Rush County hosts monthly dances for elementary school age children from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $3 per person. D.J. is Kevin Green. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club.

SATURDAY (2/2)

l Tox-away Days are the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon at Smiley Avenue.

TUESDAY (2/5)

l Partners for a Healthy Rush County will meet at 5:15 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Rush County

FRIDAY (2/8)

l Free dance for middle school students sponsored by the Rushville City Parks Department, 6-8 p.m., BRMS gym. Free admission and refreshments.

MISCELLANEOUS

l Tox-away Days are the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon at Smiley Avenue. Join in making this a Clean, Green Rush County.

l The Boys & Girls Club of Rush County will now be open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

l The community food pantry, 109 East Third Street, Rushville is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Bring photo ID. Donations welcomed.

l Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown. Use the east entrance at the corner of Adams and Locust streets. Information: 765-313-1637.

l Diabetes education classes are held from 5 to 7 p.m. on the first, second, and third Tuesday of each month at Rush Memorial Hospital Skills Lab, second floor. Cost, $10 per class with a $25 refund if all three classes are attended. Info: 765-932-7416 or dena.bills@rushmemorial.com

l Partners for a Healthy Rush County meets at 6 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the Boys & Girls Club. Open to all interested businesses, organizations or individuals in Rush County.

l A dance at the Raleigh Community Club is held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. every Saturday. Everyone welcomed.

l A parent support group meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Rushville Public Library meeting room. This group is for parents, guardians, caregivers or any family member of someone with mental or physical challenges. Those attending the group decide the topics.
