Sherry Renee Sutton and Joseph Michael McGowan were united marriage in a double ring ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Sanctuary on Penn in Indianapolis with Stan Clark, friend of the bride and groom officiating.
Paul and Karen Sutton of Rushville, parents of the bride, and Joe and Dee McGowan of Cincinnati, Ohio, parents of the groom, were in attendance.
Michael Douce served as pianist for the ceremony, along with harpist Lauren Finn, and vocalist Kate Haralson. All are close friends of the bride and groom. Bob Beran and Mary McGowan, uncle and sister of the groom, and Tim and Tom Dusing, uncles of the bride, acted as ceremony readers.
The bride wore a beautiful, delicate, and striking white sleeveless mermaid gown with embellished corded lace and tulle. Handmade flowers christened with Swarovski crystals adorn a ruched satin waistband designed by Maggie Sottero. Her vintage birdcage veil and handmade hair piece were made of lace and accented with crystals and pearls. Elegant tear drop earrings and bracelet coordinated with the crystals featured on the gown. The bride wore an antique Art Deco pendant, a gift from the groom. She wore Tiffany red satin heels and carried a small bouquet of red calla lilies and star gazer lilies. She also carried her maternal grandmother’s and grandfather’s wedding bands.
Ashlie Keaton, best friend of the bride from Indianapolis, was Maid of Honor. Maureen Callahan, Chicago, Ill, Susie Spaeth, Greenville, S.C., and Jennifer Douce, Indianapolis, all close friends of the bride, served as bridesmaids. The bridesmaids wore variations of floor-length black gowns of satin chiffon. The gowns were accessorized with jewel-toned accessories and bouquets of snapdragons that coordinated with the groomsmen’s ties.
The groom wore a light grey two-piece suit accessorized with a red paisley bow tie and grey vest . In his front pocket, he carried a handkerchief given to him by his parents. Dan McGowan, twin brother of the groom, of Indianapolis, served as Best Man. Groom’s attendants were Rob Vargo, Kalamazoo Mich., Paul Grube, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Zach McArtor, Columbus Ohio. All are good friends of the groom. Ushers were Todd Sutton, Indianapolis, brother of the bride, and Mitch Haralson friend of the bride and groom of Cincinnati, Ohio. Tiffani Brewer and Katie Dusing, cousins of the bride and groom, registered and welcomed guests.
Grandparents in attendance included George and Sara Sutton of Arlington and Dorothy Dusing of Rushville. Memory candles were lit for Arnold Dusing, late grandfather of the bride and Denise Radford, aunt of the groom.
The bride is a 2000 graduate of Rushville Consolidated High School, 2004 graduate of Butler University, and 2009 graduate of Ball State University. She currently works at Ivy Tech Community College as Director of Development.
The groom is a 2001 graduate of Anderson High School and a 2006 graduate of Ball State University. He is an 11th grade English teacher and Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at Warren Central High School.
A rehearsal dinner, catered by Lori Hoeing, was held on Friday evening June 14, at The historic Benton House in Irvington, and was hosted by the groom’s parents, Joe and Dee McGowan.
The couple is planning a honeymoon to Germany, Austria and Czech Republic in October 2013, and currently resides in Indianapolis.
