RUSHVILLE — A pair of 15-4 runs by the Lady Lions was too much for host Pendleton Heights to overcome Saturday as Rushville posted a 59-48 victory over the Lady Arabians. Rushville improves to 13-2 and the Lady Arabians fall to 11-5.

The Lady Lions got off to a great start to the game, scoring the first 11 points. Kelsi Ash and Mackenzie Campbell combined for all 11. After Kenzie Gustin got Pendleton on the scoreboard, Sarah Cook scored her first two.

Pendleton got a bucket by Meghan Dawson before Ash put in her eighth point to give Rushville a 15-4 lead. Both teams scored six points to end the quarter with Rushville leading 21-10.

Rushville added to the lead in the second, outscoring the host squad 12-9. Gustin scored the first five points for the Lady Arabians and after a time-out called by Rushville coach Melissa Marlow, the Lady Lions went on a 12-4 run. Mikayla Dougherty and Keragan Niehoff scored to start the run and Cook’s four points ended it as the Lady Lions led 33-19 at the half.

Pendleton controlled the third quarter and cut the deficit to four at 40-36. Gustin and Kiawna Cottrell led the Lady Arabians in the quarter. Their eight points at the end of the quarter capped the 17-7 run over the eight minutes.

In the fourth, Pendleton’s Taylor Siefken four points capped a 6-0 run that knotted the game at 44-44.

That was when Rushville went on its second 15-4 run. Cook’s traditional three-point play gave the Lady Lions the lead for good. The Lady Lions outscored the Lady Arabians 10-3 in the final two minutes to seal the conference victory.

The Lady Lions had four in double figures – Niehoff with 15, Cook 13, Campbell 13 and Ash 12. Gustin had 21 for the Lady Arabians to lead all scorers.

In the junior varsity game, the Lady Lions pulled away to the 33-19 win to improve to 11-4 on the season. Ellie Sammons led the Lady Lions with 10 points followed by Taylor Yager nine, McKenzie Woolston seven, Brooke Niehoff three, Kylie Martindale two and Tayler Koors two.
