RCHS harriers advance to regional

CONNERSVILLE – On a rain soaked course at Connersville, the IHSAA hosted the sectional for cross country. Host Connersville swept the team titles, but Rushville was able to earn regional qualifying positions for both the Lions and Lady Lions.

The top five teams and the top 10 runners from non-advancing teams qualify for the regional.

For the boys, the Spartans tallied 62 points to take first place. New Castle was second with 76 followed by Hagerstown 79, Rushville 95 and Northeastern 132. Those five teams earn a trip to the regional Saturday on the local Rushville course.

Other team placements were Tri 152, Seton Catholic 161, Franklin County 221, Centerville 251, Richmond 263, Knightstown 278, Cambridge City Lincoln incomplete and Union County incomplete.

Connersville’s Mathew Hill won the race with a time of 16:48.

Rushville was led by Kenny Nigh in sixth place with a time of 17:52.

Dalton Miller was 11th in 18:13. Bryce Conrad finished 17th in 18:21. L.J. Conrad took 27th in 18:50. Patrick Duffy ran a 19:17. Luke Schombert was next at 19:20 and Austin Dwenger crossed the line in 19:38.

The Lady Spartans won the team title with 38 followed by Hagerstown 76, New Castle 81, Centerville 102 and Rushville 121 to round out the regional qualifying teams. Other teams were Franklin County 143, Cambridge City Lincoln 180, Northeastern 181 and Richmond 227.

Hagerstown’s Hayley Rogers won the race with a time of 20:10.

Rushville was led by Kayla Fogg in second place with a time of 20:33.

Brandi Adkins was 14th in 22:25. Monica Dougherty crossed the line 20th in 23:19. Brooke Taylor ran a 25:02. Megan Clifton finished in 25:25. Macey Orme finished in 26:04 and Sarah Ford finished in 26:25.

The regional begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday on the local course at BRMS.
