Cougars spoil Lion Senior Night

Greenfield-Central put a damper on Senior Night for the Lions’ soccer team as the Cougars posted a 4-0 victory.

The Lions honored seniors Frank Sammons, Trent McQueen, Grant Houston, Zach Stiers, Ethan Foster, Ricky Thompson, Derrik Justice, Michael VanShoyck, Hunter Yazel, and manager Nicole Hoeing before the contest.

“It has been a pleasure working with this group of seniors,” Coach Bob Beeler said after the match. “They have been a great asset to the program and they will be missed next year.”

The Cougars got on the scoreboard early, as they scored at the 37:20 mark of the first period. They managed their second goal just six minutes later.

“They scored on us early, but I though our defense did a great job holding them scoreless the rest of the half,” Coach Beeler said.

The Cougars scored early again in the second half, and again the defense stiffened for the Lions. The final goal came with just over 10 minutes left in the match.

Goalie Sammons recorded nine saves.

“Their defense played great,” Coach Beeler added. “We managed only three shots on the evening, two by Treyton Meal and one by Michael Van Schoyck.”

The junior varsity Lions fell to Greenfield 4-0 to round out the season.

Coach Foster said Shawn Delay was in goal for the Lions in the first half and had a very good game.
