Tigers post shutout of Lions

---- — Visiting Lawrenceburg still had hopes of a Class 3A EIAC title coming into Friday’s game at Rushville. The Tigers did their part by staying in the hunt with a 34-0 victory over the Lions at Hinshaw Field.

Both teams are now 5-2 on the season. Lawrenceburg is 2-1 in the 3A EIAC standings and the Lions are 0-2.

The Tigers controlled the game from the start. Lawrenceburg moved the ball to the Rushville 3-yard line on the first possession before turning it over on downs. The Tigers were in Rushville territory on the second possession before Clay Tressler picked off a pass.

The Tigers broke through with the first score with 9:46 to play in the first quarter. Konner Jackson scored from 1-yard out.

Following an interception on the Lions’ next possession, Lawrenceburg quarterback Same Fette hit Jordon Kauffman for the 10-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 14-0 with 4:18to play in the half.

A Rushville fumble and punt closed out the Lions’ first half as the offense only mustered 48 yards offensively against the Tiger defense.

A fumble on the Lions’ first play of the second half led to a Fette pass to Alex Wilder for the touchdown and 21-0 lead.

The Tigers added to the lead early in the fourth quarter as Zach Steuer scored from 28-yards out. Lawrenceburg led 27-0.

Rushville put together its best drive of the night on the next possession. The Lions moved the ball to the 14-yard line before Jackson intercepted the ball at the goal-line and brought the ball out to the 26-yard line. The Tigers capped the night with a 13-play drive with Hunter Schnieder scoring from 1-yard out to make the final margin 34-0.

The Lions had 97 yards rushing. Zach Turner led the Lions with 83 yards on the ground. Clay Tressler passed for 50 yards with Mitchell Wagoner having one reception for 21 yards.

Defensively, Josh Yager led the Lions with 12 tackles and a sack. Garrett Hittle had seven. Turner and Lane James both had six. Tressler had an interception.

In the junior varsity game, the Lions defeated the Tigers 32-14.

Jacob Wilson got the Lions on the board first with a touchdown run. Preston Bowling added the 2-point conversion. Keith Yager then hit Wilson for a touchdown pass and Bowling added the 2-point conversion. Spenser Wilson rushed for a touchdown. Tyler Turner caught a pass for the 2-point conversion. Yager had an interception return for a touchdown with Spenser Wilson adding the 2-point conversion.

The Lions travel to South Dearborn Friday. The Knights are 0-7 and coming off a 56-20 loss to Franklin County.
