Fan Appreciation night Aug. 24

Saturday night will be the season championship and final race of the 2013 season at Mt. Lawn Speedway located five miles west of New Castle. Season championship races will be contested in the Van Hoy Oil Series Late Models, Thunder Cars and Hornets along with the UMRA Midgets all running in 50 feature events. Indy FasKarts and State Farm Insurance Street Drags will also be on the racing program.

There will be an on track autograph/photo session where the cars will be brought to the track and fans will be allowed to come meet with their favorite drivers, get autographs and take their picture with the drivers. There will also be Big Wheel races where kids may bring their own Big Wheels or use one of the Mt. Lawn supplied Big Wheels. There will also be (Mt. Lawn supplied) Pedal Car races for older kids. Citizens State Bank is sponsoring the nickel scramble that will be held for age groups 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8 where $100 worth of nickels will be poured on the racing surface for each group and the kids get to keep all the nickels that they can pick up.

Ticket prices will be $8 for adults, $5 for kids 6-10 with 5 and under free.

Ticket gates and practice open at 5 p.m. with qualifications starting at 6:15 p.m. with evening festivities getting underway at 7:30 p.m. with the on track autograph and photo session. Big wheel and pedal car races will be next followed by the nickel scramble. Racing should begin around 8:30 p.m.

Junior Varsity football changes

Junior varsity football games times have changed due to the Lions not fielding a freshman team. The junior varsity game at New Palestine on Aug. 31 will begin at 10 a.m. The game at Connersville on Sept. 21 and at Lawrenceburg on Oct. 5 will both start at 10 a.m.
