Eagles soar to HHC win over Lions

RUSHVILLE — With just 158 offensive yards for the Lions, Rushville needed a solid effort from the defense Friday against Delta. The Lions got just that during the first half, but Delta extended a 10-0 half-time lead to a 31-8 victory by game’s end.

The Lions fall to 1-6 on the year while the Eagles improve to 5-2.

Rushville had 100 yards positive rushing combined from three players, but

22 negative yards from two others to bring their offensive total to 78.

Garrett Hittle carried the bulk of the load with 15 attempts for 89 yards.

Through the air, Clay Tressler completed five passes for 80 yards. Ashton

Wilson had two receptions for 49 yards. Isaac Sliger had two receptions for 16 yards and Shawn Valentine had one catch for 15 yards.

Defensively, Hittle led the Lions with 10 solo tackles. Joe Garland (one sack) and Sliger both had six solo tackles. Zach Bullock (one sack),

Austin Maggard, and Robbie Hadley (one sack) all had four tackles. Brandon

Wilson intercepted two Eagle passes.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Eagles got on the board just three seconds into the second frame. Bryce Dishman rushed in from 11-yards out to open the scoring.

With 6:41 left in the half, Jon Kern connected on a 29-yard field goal to push the lead to 10-0. That was the score at the half.

Late in the third quarter, Delta sacked Tressler in the end zone for a safety and a 12-0 lead.

At the end of three quarters, the Lions were within two touchdowns of the lead.

Delta pulled away in the fourth quarter. A 7-yard touchdown run by Joe

Spegal pushed the lead to 18-0 with 10:27 left in the game. Less than three minutes later, Mason Bechdolt broke free from a 49-yard touchdown. Delta led

24-0 with 8:40 to play.

At the 5:49 mark, Spegal busted a 68-yard run to extend the lead to 31-0.

Rushville broke the shut out with 4:53 to play as Tressler connected with

Ashton Wilson for the 43-yard touchdown play. The 2-point conversion from

Tressler to Wilson made it 31-8.

The Lions host Pendleton Heights Friday for Senior Night.
