Lions double-up Cambridge City on diamond

RUSHVILLE — Despite allowing twice as many hits to Cambridge City, the Lions doubled up the Eagles in the category that counts most – runs. Rushville topped Cambridge City 4-2 to move to 6-10 on the year.

Mike Busald picked up the win on the hill for the Lions, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out 11.

Offensively, Austin Niehoff had a pair of hits and an RBI. Brad Busald also finished with two hits. Hunter Orme doubled and scored one of the Lion runs.

Saturday, the Lions traveled to Delta and dropped a doubleheader to the Eagles.

In the opener, Indiana State recruit Austin Conway helped his own cause by blasting two home runs and driving in three runs in Delta’s 4-1 victory. Conway pitched all seven innings allowing one earned run on four hits and five walks while striking out 11.

Mark Busald got the loss on the hill for the Lions, allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three.

Rushville threatened in the first as James Brashaber and Niehoff were walked, but the Lion duo was left stranded.

In the third, Austin Maggard had a one-out single. Brashaber followed with a walk, but the Lions were unable to score.

Rushville cut the Eagle lead to 2-1 in the fifth. Brad Busald walked and with one out, Kyle Hoeing reached on an error. Brashaber followed with an RBI single.

In the second game, nine walks and four Rushville errors allowed Delta to post the 10-0 victory.

Rushville had three hits in the game – singles by Brashaber and Niehoff and a double by Orme.
