Thoughts from the sports desk

RUSHVILLE — A quick reminder of events coming up include the Fall sports awards program at RCHS and the Lady Lion basketball scrimmage.

The awards program will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the high school cafeteria. All athletes meet in the cafeteria for special awards before moving to classrooms for individual sport awards.

The Lady Lion basketball team will host Greenwood at 6 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Gym. This will give area fans the first look at the 2012-13 squad and the redesigned floor in Memorial Gym.

Volleyball state finals

The IHSAA will host the four state championship matches in volleyball Saturday in Worthen Arena at Ball State University.

For a second straight year, the Hoosier Heritage Conference is represented as Yorktown will go after a second straight title. The Lady Tigers enter the state final match with a 35-3 record and take on Bishop Chatard (31-7).

This is a rematch of last year’s final with the Lady Tigers winning in three sets. The Lady Tigers defeated Chatard in two sets back in August.
