Wizardry of Globetrotters hits Memorial Gym

A full house in Memorial Gym Wednesday night was entertained by the world famous Harlem Globetrotters as the 2014 “Fans Rule” World Tour made a stop in Rushville.

The combination of athleticism, funny antics and real basketball talent was on display, engaging fans of all ages. From the upbeat MC, to Globie (mascot), to athletic dancers, to the players, the night was full of action and laughter.

Special K Daley led the show from the player’s perspective and he was a huge hit. His charisma and humor drew the eyes and ears of all in attendance. From making passes and baskets to stealing a purse and even a bite of pizza from a young fan, Special K brought back memories of legends like Sweet Lou Dunbar and the “clown prince” of the Harlem Globetrotters George “Meadowlark” Lemon.

Other fan favorites on the night included Too Tall Hall, at 5-2 the shortest Globetrotter in history; Handles Franklin, with his two-thumbs up smiling wiggle; Bull Bullard, with his high flying athletic dunks; and T-Time Brawner, the lone female in the show Wednesday.

Rush County’s own Olivia Yager was brought to center court by T-Time and Special K. T-Time helped the young fan spin a basketball on her finger, to the cheers of the crowd.

Although some of the young fans did not know much about the Globetrotters before Wednesday, they left as big fans.

“It was really exciting. The slam dunks were awesome,” Devon Lunsford, 12-years old, said.

“I didn’t know what to expect, but I thought it was awesome,” Matty Sutter, RCHS freshman, said.

One young fan that could not seem to stay seated was an RES East fifth-grader. A smile from start to finish and even some dance moves along with the Globetrotters highlighted his night in Memorial Gym.
