No. 13 Penn State moves past Indiana 65-52

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Maggie Lucas and Ariel Edwards each scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead No. 13 Penn State in a 65-52 victory over Indiana on Wednesday night.

Penn State led 31-24 at the half after shooting 9 of 28 (32 percent) from the field. The Lady Lions improved their shooting to 38.5 percent by the end of the night — 3 of 9 from distance — but dominated under the basket with 24 more rebounds (54-30) than Indiana.

Tori Waldner tied her career-high with 11 points and Talia East added 13 with 11 boards for the Lady Lions (14-4, 5-1 Big Ten).

Indiana forced 21 turnovers in the competition, but shot 27.6 percent (16 of 58) from the floor. The Hoosiers (15-4, 2-4) made 9 of 30 attempts from 3-point range.

Tabitha Gerardot scored 12 points for Indiana and Larryn Brooks added 11.

Northwestern beats Purdue 63-60 in double OT

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — All Terone Johnson could think about were his friends back on campus when he heard about the shooting at Purdue.

The game at Northwestern? Well, that was secondary.

The Boilermakers lost 63-60 in double overtime on Tuesday, hours after a shooting on their campus.

“It’s a devastating thing to hear about, especially when you’re on the road,” Johnson said. “You have friends on campus that you’re worried about. I don’t think anybody knew exactly who it was. We didn’t have our phones. We found out through our iPads and things like that. But this is something that’s devastating. We’re just sending our prayers to everyone.”

Drew Crawford scored 19 points and blocked the potential tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to preserve the victory for Northwestern.

Crawford, who played 50 minutes, had four points in the second OT and delivered the big block on Ronnie Johnson off an inbounds pass as time expired to preserve the win.

Tre Demps added 19 points, and the Wildcats (10-10, 3-4 Big Ten) prevailed on an emotional night for the Boilermakers (13-6, 3-3).
