No. 2 Lady Arabians hold off Lady Lions

PENDLETON — On the road at Class 4A No. 2 Pendleton Heights, the Lady Lions fell in conference softball action 4-0.

The game was tied through four innings. Rushville’s Catie Liggett had the first hit for the Lady Lions with a line drive to right center in the second inning. Jessica Wilson reached base in the third on a Lady  Arabian error.

In the top of the fourth, Riley Lanham one-hopped the left field fence for a stand-up double. The Lady Lions were not able to move her around.

Nicole Hoeing had a one-out single to right in the top of the fifth, but again the Lady Lions were unable to move her around.

Pendleton scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth on four hits and one Rushville error.

The Lady Lions threatened in the top of the sixth. With one out, Riley Lanham and Taylor Hoeing had back-to-back singles. Shelby Woods then drove the ball to deep center field, but the Lady Arabians made the catch.

Pendleton then got a ground out to get out of the inning.

The Lady Arabians added an insurance run in the sixth on one hit and one Rushville error.

Samantha Whitney opened the seventh with a single for the Lady Lions, but Pendleton retired the next three hitters in order to seal the HHC win.

Taylor Hoeing pitched all six innings for the Lady Lions allowing three earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out four.

Jets soar past Lady Lions



HOPE - The Lady Lion softball team opened the 4-game week at Hauser Monday.

The Lady Lions did not get off to a good start to the week as the Lady Jets cruised to a 10-0 victory in five innings.

Rushville’s Riley Lanham had a double in the first inning, but the Lady Lions were not able to move her around.

Hauser scored two runs on two bunt singles in the bottom of the first to lead 2-0.

Rushville went down in order in the second and the Lady Jets plated another five runs on four hits.

Nicole Hoeing had a lead-off single in the top of the third, but the next three Lady Lions were retired to end the inning.

Hauser added to the lead with a walk and two singles. After three innings, the Lady Jets led 8-0.

In the top of the fourth with one out, Taylor Hoeing was hit by a pitch. Shelby Woods followed with a single and both runners moved up on a passed ball. A fly out and strike out got Hauser out of the inning. The Lady Jets did not score in the fourth.

In the fifth, Samantha Whitney had a one-out single, but that was all the Lady Lions could get in the frame.

Hauser closed out the win with a walk and two singles in the bottom of the fifth to win 10-0.

Nicole Hoeing started in the circle and pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing five earned runs on six hits with one strike out.

Whitley Disbro tossed 1 2/3 innings allowing one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out four.

Taylor Hoeing pitched the final two innings allowing two earned runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two.

The Lady Lions host Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Greenfield-Central at 10 a.m. Saturday in a make-up game from earlier this season.
