GREENFIELD - On the road at Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Greenfield-Central, the Lions fell to the Cougars 4-0 in soccer action.
The Lions managed just one shot in the first 40 minutes of action, but the defense stepped up to keep the Lions in the game. Rushville and Greenfield went to the break tied at 0-0. The defense was led by Michael Cain, Zach Stiers, Grant Houston and Trent McQueen.
Shortly after the start of the second half, the Cougars broke through with a goal and went on to add three more for the 4-0 victory.
Coach Bob Beeler praised the offensive efforts of Austin Clark, Piedod Leon, Hunter Yazel and Ethan Foster.
Rushville keeper Frank Sammons tallied 14 saves as the Cougars out-shot the Lions 22-5 in the game.
Morristown 2, Rushville 1
The Lions hosted Morristown in the final regular season game. The Yellow Jackets stung the Lions 2-1.
Morristown took the lead on a header by David Wheeler at the 29:15 mark of the first half.
With 17:17 left in the first half, the Lions knotted the game was Austin Clark scored on the penalty kick.
Morristown scored the winning goal with 7:16 to play in the game off a penalty kick.
Rushville had 24 shots on goal while the Jackets had just 10. Frank Sammons tallied seven saves for the Lions.
On the day, Rushville registered 24 shots on goal to Morristown’s 10. Lion goalie Frank Sammons recorded 7 saves.
The Lions play Wednesday in the IHSAA sectional against the winner of Richmond and New Castle. The game is set for 7 p.m. on the local field.
