Ephlin wins tourney
At Cooper’s Sport Bowl in Anderson, RCHS junior J.T. Ephlin won the end of year scholarship tourney presented by TKO. TKO is a tournament bowling club that runs state wide tournaments for its members. The final event of the year is a tourney for scholarship money. Bowling his first three games on a sport pattern he scored 184 – 206 – 186 for a 572 total and second place.
After a break, the bowlers roll three more games with Ephlin this time hitting 205 – 244 – 170 for a 6-game total of 1,195 and qualifying first place for the stepladder finals.
In the championship game, Ephlin had a 36-pin lead through seven frames. With a miss in the 9th frame and his opponent throwing five strikes to end the game, Ephlin was forced to throw a double in the 10th for the victory. He barely hit the head pin with the first ball and carried a strike and then threw a great shot to win the first place prize of a $1,000 scholarship. This is a repeat as Ephlin won the tournament the previous year.

Union files appeal of Rodriguez’s suspension
CHICAGO (AP) — The Major League Baseball Players Association has formally appealed Alex Rodriguez’s 211-game suspension.
The New York Yankees slugger was suspended through the 2014 season on Monday when the league penalized 13 players following an investigation into Biogenesis of America, a shuttled Florida anti-aging clinic accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs.
The other 12 players accepted 50-game suspensions, but Rodriguez said he planned to fight. Union head Michael Weiner said the punishment for the third baseman was “way out of line.”
