RUSHVILLE — The Benjamin Rush Middle School cross country teams traveled to New Palestine Monday to compete in the HHC meet. Coach Cumberworth commented, “Both the boys and girls ran hard against good competition on a challenging course. I couldn’t be any prouder of either team, as they both brought home third place ribbons.”

For the girls, scores were Pendleton 15, Yorktown 83, Rushville 95, Shelbyville 120, Doe Creek 136, Greenfield 145, Delta 150, and Mount Vernon 186.

Kayla Fogg and Brandi Adkins brought home All-Conference honors by finishing seventh (12:30) and eighth (12:36), respectively.  Arielle Ordas was 17th (13:41) followed by Macey Orme 30th (14:42), Lindsey Flannery 33rd (14:55), Brooke Cameron 35th (15:02) and Alisha Markley 36th (15:03).

For the boys, scores were Pendleton 34, Doe Creek 59, Rushville 103, Greenfield 105, Delta 109, Yorktown 122, Shelbyville 145, and Mount Vernon 198. For the Cubs, Josh Hodge was 15th (12:06), Brett Leisure was 16th (12:15), Kyle Schindler 16th (12:18), Landis Gettinger 27th (12:45) and Luke Schombert 28th (12:45).

The highlights of the reserve action were Jake Smith’s 10th place finish in a season best time of 13:17, Noah Mullins’s season best 14:39 to finish 40th, and Kiara Thorp’s 7:58 mile split and 15:14 overall for 18th.

The Benjamin Rush Middle School cross country teams traveled to South Decatur on Tuesday.

For the boys, the scores were Rushville 19, South Decatur 36. For the Cubs, Josh Hodge and Kyle Schindler sprinted the final 300 meters with Hodge taking the win in 11:46.  Schindler was second in 11:47.  Also for the Cubs, Luke Schombert was fourth in a season best 12:24, Landis Gettinger was fifth (12:29), and Brett Leisure seventh (12:47).  Jake Smith was 12th, William Noe 13th, Reece Fields 16th, Jon Ripberger 17th, Jacob Kirchoff 18th, Noah Mullins 19th and Will Thoman 20th. Errick Hayes finished 21st (season best 17:35) and Adam Neuman was 22nd (season best 17:36).  

For the girls, scores were Rushville 17, South Decatur 46th.  Winning the race was Rushville’s Kayla Fogg (12:21), with Brandi Adkins second (12:46), Arielle Ordas third (13:30), Macey Orme fifth (14:20), and Brooke Cameron sixth (season best 14:27). Lindsey Flannery finished seventh (14:43), Alisha Markley was eighth (15:01), Kiara Thorp ninth (15:05), Kassie Herbert 12th (17:39), Ainsley Flannery 14th (19:29), and Tori Whittaker 15th (19:32).

The girls’ team record moves to 19-6, while the boys move to 20-5.  The Cub runners close out their season at Brookville next Monday against Brookville and Connersville.
