IU East’s Froman honored

Indiana University East redshirt senior Paige Froman is the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s tennis player of the week, the league announced Sept. 9.

Froman (Rushville/Ball State University) tied the IU East school record for career singles wins with her three-set victory at No. 1 singles against Manchester University on Sept. 5.

Froman defeated a three-time all-conference honoree from Manchester to earn her 21st career singles win.

BRMS cross country

The Benjamin Rush Middle School cross country teams opened their seasons by hosting New Castle on Wednesday afternoon.

In girls’ action, the Cubs defeated the Trojans 23-24. Megan Mills of New Castle won the 3,000 meter (1.86 miles) race in 13:56.

For Rushville, Charity Griffith was second (14:15). Katlyn Keim was third (14:45) followed by Shannon Dougherty fifth (15:29), Kiara Thorp sixth (15:39) and Megann Sasher seventh (16:24). Other Lady Cubs were Abby Gates 10th, Jenna Geise 11th, Kaitlyn Miller 12th, Macy Rolfe 18th, Clara Kemple 19th, Brooke Leisure 21st, and Heather Stanley 22nd.

For the boys, the Cubs fell 24-35.

Trevor Ragle of New Castle won the meet in 11:28.

For the Cubs, Kyle Schindler was second (12:18). Ira Griffith was third (12:29) followed by Jacob Kirchoff seventh (13:11), Austin Kirby 11th (13:50) and Cameron Humphrey 16th (15:00). Other Cubs were Nick Innis 17th, Noah Mullins 18th, Errick Hayes 21st, and Lance Beard 22nd.

The Benjamin Rush runners host a 10-team invitational at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

BRMS volleyball

The BRMS seventh-grade Lady Cubs fell to 1-2 on the season with a 25-9, 25-20 loss to Tri. McKenzie Muckerheide, Leah Kemple and Brittany Kuhn all led the Lady Cubs with one ace a piece while Dru Niedenthal led the Lady Cubs with two kills.

Colts find ways to keep winning

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Andrew Luck looked as relaxed and comfortable in the locker room Wednesday as he does in the pressure-packed huddle Sunday afternoons.

The Colts had hoped to lighten the load on their second-year quarterback with an offseason spending spree and a new philosophy. Yes, Indianapolis (1-0) is content to run the ball more often and more efficiently this season.
