Lions tame Wildcats 32-14

---- — BROOKVILLE – Through three weeks in the high school football season, the Lions are enjoying the switch to the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference. Rushville tamed Franklin County 32-14 to improve to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the EIAC.

Franklin County opened the scoring on the Wildcats first possession of the game. Quarterback Kohl Holmes connected with Jesse Cox for the 13-yard touchdown pass to put the Wildcats up 7-0 with 6:26 to play in the first quarter. The Lions outscored the host squad 32-7 from that point.

The Lions got on the board with 1:32 left in the first quarter. Seven run plays shared by Garrett Hittle and Zach Turner culminated in a 3-yard touchdown run by Hittle.

Franklin County then put together a 13-play drive. The Wildcats were stopped by consecutive sacks from Rushville’s Noah Nigh and Nick Hornaday.

Late in the first half, the Lions lined up at the Franklin County 4-yard line. The Wildcat defense did not put a defender on Bryce Thomas and Clay Tressler completed the easy pass for the touchdown to give the Lions a 14-7 lead at the half.

Rushville’s third touchdown was set up by a fumble recovery by Clay Tressler. Rushville went 51 yards on nine running plays and found the end zone on a 1-yard Turner run. With 2:26 to play in the third, Rushville led 20-7.

With 4:33 to play, the Wildcats’Jacob Gray recovered a Rushville fumble. Franklin County capitalized with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Holmes to Cox at the 4:18 mark.

Just 11 seconds later, Hittle went 65 yards for the touchdown to make it 26-14.

After a Clay Tressler interception deep in Rushville territory, the Lions moved the ball for another Hittle touchdown run to cap the 32-14 victory.

Hittle finished with 239 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Turner added 107 yards rushing and one touchdown.

Defensively, Hittle tallied 12 tackles, a forced fumble and a sack. Turner had 10.5 tackles. Clay Tressler added 9.5 tackles, a fumble recovery and interception. Nigh had three sacks and one fumble recovery and Hornaday had two sacks.

The Lions travel to Batesville (3-0) for Week 4. The Bulldogs are coming off a 52-7 win over South Dearborn.
