Second half keys Bulldogs win

CENTERVILLE – After playing to a 1-1 tie with visiting Rushville, the Bulldogs of Centerville pushed across four more goals to seal a 5-2 victory in soccer action Thursday.

Rushville opened the scoring at the 2502 mark of the first half as Derrik Justice scored on a penalty kick. Centerville knotted the game with a penalty kick with 17:01 to play in the half.

Centerville opened the scoring in the second half with a goal by Conner Dillon. Rushville tied the game with 3:55 to play as Hunter Yazel scored off the Ethan Foster assist.

Two minutes later, Centerville’s David Hatch gave the Bulldogs the lead for good. Centerville added two insurance goals (Dillon and Ricky Torres) to secure the win.

Rushville’s Frank Sammons had 14 saves in the game.

Single goal enough for Tigers at Rushville

Lawrenceburg’s Brandon Bills scored on a breakaway at the 34:34 mark of the second half to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead at Rushville Saturday in soccer action. That score held up as the Tigers left town with the conference win.

Lawrenceburg out-shot the Lions 23-7 on the day. Hunter Yazel had three shots for the Lions. Luke Sheehan added two. Ethan Foster and Ricky Thompson both had one.

“Finding the net seemed to be a problem today,” Coach Bob Beeler said. “We played well defensively with Grant Houston, Zach Stiers, Curtis Wright and Trent McQueen, along with Zach Keim, keeping them out of the net. That one breakaway was our downfall.”
