Hoeing tosses no-hitter

RUSHVILLE — On a special night for Taylor Hoeing, the Lady Lion pitcher capped the day by tossing a no-hitter against Franklin County. Hoeing, the lone senior, was honored prior to the game on Senior Night and then she went to work on the Lady Wildcats – tossing seven innings with no hits, no runs and 10 strikeouts in the 1-0 victory.

The Lady Lions scored their lone run in the third inning. Shelbie Brown had a two-out single and went to second on Riley Lanham’s single. Brown scored on the single to left field by Shelby Woods.

That was all the Lady Lions needed as Hoeing shut down Franklin County’s offense. Brown, Lanham and Brooke Niehoff all had two hits for the Lady Lions. Woods and Nicole Hoeing had the other two Rushville hits.

The Lady Lions (7-9) host South Dearborn in a double header at 11 a.m. Saturday.

In the junior varsity game, Rushville defeated Franklin County 11-5.

Franklin County scored one in the top of the first. The Lady Lions came back with three in the bottom on doubles by Brown and Morgan Edwards and singles by Gabby Doyle and Sierra Snow.

The Lady Wildcats added a run in the second and the Lady Lions scored two in the second. Brown doubled and Doyle walked. Both scored on the double by Colestock.

Both teams scored two in the fourth. Rushville’s Mehgan Barnes singled and scored. Brown scored the other run for Rushville.

The Lady Wildcats scored their final run in the sixth and the Lady Lions added three more runs as Colestock, Snow and Kaitlin Chandler all scored.
