Early lead holds up for Bulldogs

RUSHVILLE — CENTERVILLE - In the bottom of the first inning, Centerville’s Weaver led off with a walk and Phenis homered to center field to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. That was enough to hold off the Lions in a 2-1 victory. The Lions are now 5-10 on the season.

Rushville was limited to two hits in the game. The Lions scored in the top of the fifth as Brian Busald walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Austin Maggard singled in Busald. John Riddell had the other hit for the Lions.

Brad Busald pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing two earned runs on three hits and five walks while striking out seven. Mark Busald pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs and no hits while striking out four.

The junior varsity Lions defeated Connersville 5-4. With the score tied at 4-4, a Connersville error on the ball hit by Michael Tague scored Michael St. John with the winning run.

Keith Tressler had three hits and two RBIs for the Lions. Spenser Wilson, Kris Combs and St. John all had two hits.

Mitchell Wagoner pitched five innings, allowing two runs while striking out eight. Caleb Wiles got the win by pitching two innings with only one hit against him.
