Lions fall to Cougars on courts

---- — GREENFIELD – The Lion tennis team fell 5-0 to the Cougars of Greenfield-Central.

“We ran into a solid team tonight, loaded with seniors. It’s a little unusual to face a team of all seniors, but that was our fate today. Will Hogsett playing at three singles turned in our most competitive match of the day losing a close one 6-3, 6-4,” Coach Holly Heuer said.

At No. 1 singles, Jake Fowler lost to Dakota Smith 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Paul Hershberger fell 6-1, 6-1 to Brandon Hall. Hogsett dropped his match to Drew White.

At No. 1 doubles, Chase Hamilton and Michael St. John fell 6-0, 6-0 to Jake Kauth and Max Holtzclaw. At No. 2 doubles, Adam Martin and Andrew Rice lost 6-0, 6-0 to Zach Wright and Bailey Hall.

Royals top Lions on courts

Visiting Eastern Hancock posted a 5-0 victory over Rushville in tennis

action Tuesday. The Lions are 1-5 on the year.

Jake Fowler was defeated 6-0, 6-0 boy Ryan Speas at No. 1 singles. Paul

Hershberger lost 6-0, 6-3 to Danny Rash at No. 2 singles. Will Hogsett

lost in three sets 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-3 to Brandon Ray at No. 3 singles.

In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Michael St. John and Chase Hamilton lost 6-1,

6-3 to Garett Hammond and Garek Ferguson. At No. 2 doubles, Adam Martin

and Andrew Rice lost 6-2, 6-1 to Kirby Petry and Corbin Jennings.
