Tennis team goes 1-1 at Connersville Invitational

CONNERSVILLE – The Lion tennis team competed in the Connersville Invitational Saturday and finished 1-1 on the day.

The Lions opened with a 5-0 loss to East Central.

At No. 1 singles, Jake Fowler lost 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Paul Hershberger fell 6-1, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Will Hogsett lost 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Chase Hamilton and Michael St. John lost 6-0, 6-0. The No. 2 team of Adam Martin and Andrew Rice lost 6-0, 6-0.

In the consolation round, the Lions defeated conference foe South Dearborn 3-2.

Fowler won the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-2 over Luke Armbruster. Hershberger won the No. 2 singles match over Adam Dreihaus 6-0, 6-1.

Hogsett posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles over Kaleb Barrows.

The No. 1 doubles team of Hamilton and St. John lost 6-3, 7-5. At No. 2 doubles, Martin and Rice lost 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 10-2.

“We finally drew an opponent that we felt like we should be able to match up with and compete with. The guys stepped up with a very good effort and found out what they are capable of by getting one in the win column. They are all working hard to get better every day,” Coach Holly Heuer said.

Pirates shut out Lions on courts

GREENSBURG – A talented Greensburg Pirate tennis team welcomed Rushville to their home courts Thursday and then shut out the conference foe 5-0.

“We anticipated a strong showing from a senior laden Greensburg and we got it. We’re pleased with our kids’ effort for the most part. We were a little more competitive than we might have expected, especially at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. We’ll chalk it up to another valuable learning experience for us,” Coach Heuer noted.

At No. 1 singles, Jake Fowler lost 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Paul Hershberger lost 6-0, 6-2. Will Hogsett was defeated 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Michael St. John and Chase Hamilton lost 6-0, 6-0. The No. 2 team of Andrew Rice and Adam Martin lost 6-0, 6-0.
