---- — ST. LEON – The Lions opened the tennis season with a 5-0 loss to Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference foe East Central.

“I think it’s fair to describe our season this year as a rebuilding effort. We have only two returning players from last year’s team so we are a little short on court experience. We coaches will try to keep the learning process on track for our first year players by helping them learn to cope with the losses as they work to gain proficiency at this sport,” Coach Heuer said. “Paul Hershberger playing at No. 2 singles had our best match of the evening. He came within a couple of points from getting to a third set. Will Hogsett’s match at No. 3 singles was much closer than the score indicates”

Jake Fowler lost 6-0, 6-0 to Jason Bosse at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Hershberger fell 6-1, 7-5 to James Brand. At No. 3 singles, Hogsett lost 6-0, 6-0 to Tyler Wilson.

At No. 1 doubles, Chase Hamilton and Michael St. John lost 6-2, 6-2 to Nathan McCann and Conner Paul. The No. 2 doubles team of Adam Martin and Andrew Rice lost 6-0, 6-1 to Alex Hobbe and Phil Stenger.
