Fever beat Liberty 70-66
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Briann January scored 20 points and Natasha Howard added 12 to help the Indiana Fever beat the New York Liberty 70-66 on Saturday night.
The back-and-forth battle had 14 ties and 12 lead changes before Indiana took a 68-66 lead on two free throws by Karima Christmas with 28 seconds left. Cappie Pondexter missed a jumper with 8 seconds left before the Liberty fouled Marissa Coleman. She hit both free throws to seal the win for Indiana (3-3).
Tina Charles scored 22 points to lead New York (2-4).
Delisha Milton-Jones had given the Liberty a 66-64 lead with 2:54 left, but that was their last points of the game. They missed their last four shots after that basket.
Indiana was still missing Tamika Catchings, who has been sidelined with a back injury this season.
Kings beat Blackhawks 5-4 in OT in Game 7
CHICAGO (AP) — Alec Martinez scored at 5:47 of overtime, and the Los Angeles Kings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals Sunday night.
Martinez’s shot went off Blackhawks defenseman Nick Leddy and over goalie Corey Crawford, stunning the sellout crowd at the United Center and leading to a wild on-ice celebration for Los Angeles. Leddy was disconsolate as the Kings gathered in a big huddle along the boards.
Los Angeles improved to 7-0 in elimination games with its third Game 7 win on the road this postseason. It will host the New York Rangers in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals on Wednesday night.
Justin Williams and Tyler Toffoli each had a goal and an assist for the Kings, who once held a 3-1 lead in the series, only to have the defending champion Blackhawks come back to force Game 7. Marian Gaborik had the tying score midway through the third period.
