Lions win sectional crown at Connersville

CONNERSVILLE – By just four points, the Lions claimed the sectional crown in track at Connersville. The Lions tallied 116.2 points with host Connersville finishing with 112 to take second. Richmond was third with 70.7 followed by Northeastern 54.2, Union County 51, Centerville 43.5, Hagerstown 41.2, Franklin County 40, Tri 28, Seton Catholic 26, Oldenburg Academy 20 and Cambridge City Lincoln 18.2.

This is the third sectional title in four years for the Lions. Rushville was runner-up last season. The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional Thursday at Connersville.

Zach Turner was the sectional champion in both the 110 hurdles (:15.50) and the 300 hurdles (:40.59). Jeremy Hallgarth took second in the 110 hurdles (:16.13) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (:41.83).

Zach Keim won the pole vault at 13-0 with Jon Seals fourth at 10-6. Keim was also fourth in the 100 at :11.70 and third in the long jump with a personal best 20-4.5.

Rushville’s 400-meter relay team of Turner, Keith Yager, Sam Beavers and Keim took first in :44.89.

The 3200-meter relay team of Luke Sheehan, Austin Dwenger, Evan Dyer and Patrick Duffy took second in 8:40.59.

The 1600-meter relay team of Duffy, Turner, Beavers and Josh Hodge finished third in 3:35.61.

Hallgarth took second place in the high jump at 5-10.

In the 200-meter dash, Ezra Griffith was fourth in :24.14 and Beavers was fifth in :24.21.

Dyer ran to fifth place in the 1600-meter run in 4:48.18 with Dalton Miller eighth in a personal best 4:56.09. Dyer also placed fifth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:30.32.

In the 400-meter dash, Beavers crossed the line fifth in :53.35 and Hodge was eighth in :54.12.

Duffy finished seventh in the 800 with a personal best 2:10.76.

Nick Hutchinson finished eighth in the discus with a distance of 113-2.
