Lady Lions third in track sectional

Sammons is 2-time champ

CONNERSVILLE – The IHSAA hosted a track sectional for girls at Connersville Tuesday and the host Lady Spartans claimed the team title in the 10-team field.

The Lady Spartans tallied 144 points for the title. Hagerstown was second with 138 followed by Rushville 85.5, Richmond 83.5, Centerville 42, Cambridge City Lincoln 37, Union County 37, Seton Catholic 30, Tri 14 and Northeastern 7.

Rushville Ellie Sammons was the sectional champion in the shot put (36-2.5) and the discus (school record 128-4).

The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional at Shelbyville Tuesday.

The Lady Lions’ 3200-meter relay team of Brandi Adkins, Monica Dougherty, Kayla Fogg and Arielle Ordas took third with a time of 10:45.78.

In the 100 hurdles, Aubrey Stomberg advanced to the regional with a fourth place finish in :17.82. Fran Percell was fifth in :18.35.

Fogg advanced to the regional in the 1600 with a fourth place time of 5:45.44. Dougherty was seventh in 6:03.56.

Adkins advanced to the regional with a fourth place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:36.58. Ordas was sixth in 2:49.01.

Kayla Shelton took fourth in the discus at 100-2 to advance to the regional. She was also fifth in the shot put at 32-2.

In the pole vault, Katie Egielske took second at 8-8 and Mekyna Hall took fourth at 6-6. Both advance to the regional.

Rushville’s 400-meter relay team of Stomberg, Jordan Linville, Kianna Boudine and Katy Newbold finished sixth in :57.11.

Taylor Yager took eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.

Stomberg finished seventh in the 300 hurdles in :54.94.

Fogg was sixth (13:28.28) and Dougherty eighth (13:38.14) in the 3200-meter run.

Rushville’s 1600-meter relay team of Yager, Brooke Drake, Zinnia Leon and Stomberg finished fifth in 4:46.96.
